hahahahaha!
Let me understand, you bought a Camaro Gen5 SSRS (10r 2)...and you expect good milage...NOT mission fail. Before my wife's '11 2SSRS was totaled by a 'Tulsa driver" - ie a lame azz driver who is a danger to the road, and barely cognisant of the traffic around me...about 20% of the drivers..really...I got at best 19 to 20 on the road, and 16 in town. Now I'm in a '15 Red Hot Z/28...and I could care less what the milage is...(12-13 town/19 road). But its so much fun..its hard to think critically on it. Oh and I run E32 (93 octane) while I'm getting that great milage. And she says..of course...that I wrecked her Summit white 2SSRS A6. the cop asked if I was turning, I said no I was tryign to avoid the fool, as he ran a stop sign when I was 1 car length from the intersection (I had no traffic controls).

That's all you are going to get and I had the same concern after 3 months of ownership. My 85 C4 gets way better mileage- lighter and way more aerodynamic. So my SS cannot be a daily driver- weekend car only. It would cost me over $200.00 a month to daily drive it. So I use my 2016 WRX during the week- it gets 3X the gas mileage. I still spend more on the SS for gas just driving it once a week than the WRX all week!
I did an experiment to see what I could get driving around town with a light a foot as possible for one week of my commute to work- granny shifting at 2K RPM, driving mostly steady 50-55 MPH with only a couple of stops, I aired up my tires to 38 PSI also. Best I could get was 19. And it was as boring as heck- everyone was passing me. No more of that. |

I have never had a tank below 16 mpg with my A6 SS. Best was on a roadrip of 24.9. But normally I get between 16.7-19 mpg.

As I mentioned, I'm not really concerned but today I checked mine. Ironically, it's the same as the OP's -14.3. I NEVER drive it without a Range. I rarely am on the highway. Lots of short to moderate city runs. Hell, i guess I thought 14.3 was normal! 30 does seem like a crack pipe dream.

If you think the people around here are exaggerating gas mileage, you should go visit the 6th gen forum and see what those guys are posting. 32+ mpg for the LT1 and 40+ mpg for the V6. Yeah right!

My fuel economy is around 19-22 mpg with half the tank being used on the highway. If it's just running around locally in the stop and go traffic, I have seen it as low as 15ish.
On a highway run at 78 MPH, I get around 25-26 MPG per the mileage/tank_fill_gallons! And yes, my odometer is calibrated; +/-1% accuracy. |

Cut the OP a break guys. He has heard about the "great" MPG and worries that what he is getting may be the sign of something seriously wrong. I think the consensus from the SS guys here is that his numbers are not out of line.

Yeah, them Gen 6-ers aren't to be trusted!
![]() What's probably worse than me not knowing what my highway mileage is, is that its never been on a round trip farther than about 100 miles. And that was on windy, country roads. I should probably drive that thing. I might actually like that AFM on the highway. Nah!

the numbers are possible if you drive a 6 cylinder.most v8 drivers didnt buy for gas mileage and enjoy hearing that exhaust note,so the foot might be a little heavier.

When I had my 5th Gen SS's (2011 & 2015 M6 transmission), the best I was able get was between 23-24..... That was right after changing oil to Amsoil, and I had to be super good with my right foot. (on Mobil 1 was between 21-22). If I had to venture into town and deal with traffic lights or stop/go traffic it would eventually average out in the hi-teens.... Oh, and I always calculate actual mpg's at fill-ups using trip A in my mpg calculations and reset each time. It's more accurate then the car's figures....
To the OP......When was the oil changed? Are you running the AC ? It is a heavier car than your C6 vette, so you can't really compare the two. There's probably lot's of factors, but I'd be willing to bet that it's the gas, probably at some point in it's previous ownership regular ended up in the car and it's stuck on the low octane table..... Also, given that it's a pre-owned vehicle, if it were me... I'd also go and change all the fluids....Oil, transmission and rear diff. You may be putting in 93 octane gas now, but what about previous owner and/or dealer? The computer has 2 different tables....One for high octane gas and one for lower octane gas.....It will run on low octane gas, and the computer switches to the low octane table...Here's the kicker...Even if you run out any low octane gas and refill with 93 octane gas, the computer still keeps it on the lower table; it won't automatically reset to the higher octane table.....It needs to be done manually by doing the famous fuse pull (#5 & #20) for the computer to reset to the high octane table. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38964 Last edited by nancygrl; 04-13-2017 at 09:12 AM. |

Go to a fairly flat stretch of highway when it's not busy or crowded. Bring it up to 70 and turn on the cruise control. Zero out you MPG and let it go 10 or 15 miles like that. Tell us what you get. Mine reads 24.0 mpg after about a 13 mile run on a fairly flat highway. After a couple of weeks of driving back country double yellow line roads to work, 20 mile each way I'm at 18 mpg.

my '10 SS L99. At 4:00 AM, absolutely NO traffic, flat interstate, I set my cruise control at 70 MPH and drove with no braking or touching the gas for exactly 60 miles. The computer, which I had reset, said I got just under 25 MPG. On other trips, trying, but not trying as hard, I constantly get 23.4 MPG. And that's driving like an old fogey at about 70 and depending on the traffic.
