Non-BA doesn't have an amp; it runs the speakers off the HU @ 4 ohm. If you add an amp first, it will just show how awful the stock speakers really are. If you replace the stock speakers first, the HU won't be able to drive them properly; and you risk blowing them from clipping.

Thanks for the info. This is a bit beyond my skill set. If this were an old hot rod that I was going to pull the 8 track, run all new speaker wires and amp wires, I would tackle myself. Thinking I need to hit a local reputable stereo shop to have them install amp/component speaks.

Arguably a non-BA system is easier as there is nothing to tap and no kit to purchase so long as you replace that POS head unit. Once that is done, installing a stereo will be identical to one of your old hot rods.

Dash kit + Head unit + RCAs + amp + speaker wires + speakers

I wrote a similar high level check list guide for the Z/28 group HERE.

Locally, the best person in your area is Ryan Autry with Audio Innovations. Be aware of sticker shock though, they will likely push their own products. Hertz front components and rear 6x9's will set you back $1,200 alone. Rule of thumb is if you pay asking price for their components, installation is included (FREE).

Don't get sold snake oil by any retail shop, there is enough information in these forums that anyone with patience can DIY.

No way to keep the myLink head unit? I like my navigation, sirus, and other goodies that are loaded on the stock head unit.

I'm just looking for marginally better sound quality and higher volume. I doubt there are RCAs on the back of this head unit, but there ought be a way to get an audio signal from the deck to the amp, no?

I'm rereading thread this morning, how are you an RS packaged Camaro with Navigation in a non-BA system with no amplifier in the trunk?

I'm certain you have an amp and the BA system, which leads back to my original statement, you'll have to purchase a FARK to keep your original NAV head unit. Pull the trunk panel near left tail light and look at the back wall, should be an amp there.

My car is a 1SS Camaro with RS package and Nav with non BA system and no factory amp so he doesn't have to be BA just because of the nav

Oh lawdy what? This is my scenario. No where does it specify BA. Not on the speaker grilles, not on the build sheet, not on the window sticker. 1SS/RS with some factory ordered interior goodies (leather seats, gauges, and some other rpo numbers I haven't deciphered yet. I do not have back up cam, but I do have navigation. Red SS badges, halo headlights, color matched roof molding and antenna.

I will pull the trunk panel 1st chance I get to look for an amp.
