It doesn't take a fancy 3,000,000 point inspection cert for me or any car guy to know if a car is a good buy or not.
That's where you're wrong booya. HE paid $45,000 for it. Ergo, it's worth that much to him as a collector of beautiful financed automobiles.

So how much do you estimate that remaining CPO warranty increases the value of your car over any other 2012 ZL1?

What lesson is learned? Not to park your car on your property at your house?

ZL1's are not collectables? My father used to race cars with Don Yenko and said the very same thing about his "Loud Camaros" back in the day...LOL

Not sure where you can find a Mint CPO 2012 ZL1 with less than 10K miles for $30k though. If you look at Autotrader and Cargus they are between $38k-$48K...???

Thanks for the input though...
Two.. BRAND NEW 2013 ZL1's left on show room floors. 45k is doable on a brand new Z, sir... they're desperate to get off them. Check cars.com

I do know collector cars and know that a 1969 Z28 survivor is worth considerably more than one that has been wrecked and had all the drivers side sheet metal replaced and was repainted, or one with bondo, or... I think you understand...[/QUOTE]

I hate to say this but if this is your forever car what do you care what it will be worth in 40 years? I am going out on a limb and say you won't be around by the time the car has actually appreciated in value again.

That's the thing, nobody knows how long forever is for them... We hope and assume it is a long way off, but you really don't know, so enjoy life while you can.

As you can see in my sig, my Dad's 2012 ZL1 is #1866. Bought new off of the showroom floor with every option. It is a weekend/summer time toy. He has ~5,000 miles on it. He, like myself, has several motorcycles which he also has to split time with...hence the low mileage. He is never going to sell it. Is he going to see the car balloon in price during his lifetime? More than likely, no. Hell, I probably won't even get to see if it balloons in price (I don't necessarily care either). Regardless, that is not why he bought it. He bought it as a toy to drive and enjoy.

If he were to sell it right now, I would expect no more than $40-42k. That is in the general vicinity of where these cars are selling right now. He often thinks he should've waited to buy one, since the prices are considerably lower than the ~$61k he paid for his. In the end, he wanted the first year (2012) and also to be the first owner.

Some of this I just don't get. Op says the car was mint without a scratch but has posted about a damaged splitter. Fixed I assume? The car has just under 10000 mi. The paint on our cars gets stone damaged very easily. Mine has a pinheaded size nick in it already at 2200 mi. I stay way back to avoid this but it happens. His value of the car with it being CPO is more when it's out in a couple days?? His purchase price seems top dollar but that was then this is now. Mid to upper 30's is what Ive seen. The car is no where near totaled so what is the point of all this? I can't see any insurance co. Paying more than the cost to fix it and possibly depreciation. My car got a dent so I don't want it anymore? I want more than it's worth? My car is special because I own it. No op, you didn't say that, but that's what it seems to be. Maybe I'm way off but I think others see it the same as I do. As before, good luck with the repair and let this thread die. I'm out.
