Manual steering conversion
I'm wondering if there is anyway to convert the standard power steering on a 2011 Camaro to manual steering? I've driven a car before with manual steering and found that I like the feel.

It is a safety issue like power disc brakes vs. manual drum brakes. The faster you can react the safer.

it's not a safety issue if done right... Pontiac Fiero had manual steering. The Fiero drove nicely at speed... was a PIA to park.
I'm guessing you'd have to swap out the steering rack with a manual version... I'm sure you'd need some fabrication skills. Then there's the issue with the unused pump... somehow you prolly want to make it a dummy pulley. Would be lots of work for something nobody will want to buy later. |

Manual steering cars have different gearing in the steering than power steering cars, and generally have much narrower tires than modern muscle cars.

I had an MkI MR2 with a manual steering. It was a very light car with the engine behind and it was still a PITA to steer at slow speeds or parallel parking.
On a big car like this, I don't I am strong enough to steer this manually without a 30 inch steering wheel. |

And if its a more connected to the road steering feel you are looking for... can do that with alignment specs, lowered, and sticky tires. Take a Z28 for a ride on some canyon roads. That's steering sweetness.
