I need some advice
Hello everyone. I am a new user on here and I am thinking about getting my first Camaro. I have been looking at the 2010-2012 models of the 1SS and I wanted to know which one would be the best for my age and budget. I am having a hard time finding SS's around my budget of ~17k in my area. I am turning 17 in July (which I will be buying the car in August). I don't care about insurance cost at all. I currently have a 2007 Cobalt SS in Extremely Good condition and I have had this car since '07. I have all mechanic records for it, and it has under 50k miles. Is it worth trading in the car and some cash for a V6 Camaro or should I go all-in with a 1SS? Thanks!

This is a little light on the budget if you want a V8. It's gonna come with some miles or character for that price. I purchased a V6 but my motivation was for it to be an open air toy and being a convertible was necessary. I was looking in a similar price range as you so it wouldn't cost me much to replace my can-am spyder. It still feels surprisingly sporty but If mine wasn't a convertible it would have to be a v8

You are turning 17 in July and have owned your present car for since 2007 10 years? Been driving since you were 7 ?
As far as $17k, I think you will find an SS for that price, just look privately and don't go to a dealer. Quote:

Let me rephrase that, the car has been in the family since we bought it in Indiana. It was my grandmothers car who had it since 2007. She bought it from a dealership in Indiana, has every receipt for all work on the car, and has less than 50k miles. The furthest she drove it before moving to Kansas City was 100 miles outside of her city. She babied the car and kept it in a garage at work, and at her house all of her life. Has seen very little rain. I inherited the car after she passed early this year.

But yeah for sure as far as private listings go. It's just about finding an SS within the price point. I found one for 15.5k in my area, but I think the dude is just a scam because he provided little to no information about the car, and he posted the car was FWD when ALL Camaros are RWD unless he had some modding done to the car, in which case would raise the cars value most likely since it is more winter-acceptable now.

Keep the Kobalt or buy a cheaper 350z and pocket the money for a future house. Yeah, not as fun but you still have a pretty quick car and money left to boot.

I have a well cared for 2010 SS. No way would you get it for $17,000, or even $27,000 for that matter.
I used to have a Cavalier Z24, sort of a precursor to your Cobalt SS. It was just as much fun to drive as my Camaro SS. A seriously quick car which, unfortunately, rusted out from under me here in the New England salt. It was one of the last GM cars to lack galvanized uni-body. I would keep the Cobalt until you have the time and money for a primo Camaro. |
