But, but, those grooves were made in the 70's. With 70's technology. How is a 21st century, $20K "VPI Avenger" turntable going to change that? It's 21st century poppycock. (to use a vintage term) . Everything is "new" to someone who's only been on the planet a short time. It's called, marketing to the unsuspecting! Or as P.T. Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute."

No "rack" system that I am aware of from the 70s should be used to determine what's really in those record grooves. I'm willing to bet your needle is beyond worn as well.

"Dizz Knee Land" is a popular cut. (it's rock) I don't know if it was ever produced on vinyl. It doesn't say whether it's all digital or analog/digital but it could change you mind about a CD. Even one from 1992.

One of the best mixes I've ever heard.

I have to agree with you on the CD Player. GM/Chevy discontinued the cd player in Camaro as a cost cutting measure, as I've found out that some other GM models did feature a CD player; Such as my '15 Malibu. I really would have liked a cd player in my '14 Camaro, just to compare sound quality within my fleet. As it stands, even with the improvement in clarity and stereo separation with my newer systems, my 15 year old Monsoon System in my '02 Camaro, backed with a (modestly powered) subwoofer, will out-volume all of the other systems in my fleet. The Monsoon had its quality quirks, but with the right discs........you would not want to get out of the car!!!

But to bring this back around more to a car forum, if I paid $20K for a Hennessy perf package or $20K for a turntable, you can bet your a$$ I'd have a beast of a car and vinyl perfection. At least in my mind. No matter what reality was!

The Boston Audio has not been an issue for me. I like to drive with the windows down and enjoy listening to the sound of my LS3. It is the only music I need.

So I did some digging and some trial and error. Well, I would like to report back that I think it sounds pretty damn good! That is, under the right circumstances.

First of all, with no CD player in my car, I had no way to quick test how a high quality audio file sounds through the system. Then I read about how XM Radio, is actually pretty poor quality, and with no good terrestrial stations in my area, I looked toward MP3's. Well, after some more reading, I found out all of my MP3 and AAC audio files are garbage quality too. It turns out that when I import music from a CD to iTunes I needed select a better audio file format. I chose ALAC Apple Lossless, because the file is smaller than a FLAC/WAV file, but essentially keeps all of the quality from the original CD file, as in higher highs, and lower lows.

So anyway, after changing over all of my CD's to ALAC Apple Lossless files, and playing them through my iPhone connected via USB to the Camaro. I think that Boston System sounds pretty damn good! It hits hard and I can discern all the different sounds, and doesn't distort when I crank it way up.

So to sum it up:

-Radio=Garbage
-XM Radio=(while convenient)Garbage
-MP3/AAC=Garbage
ALAC/FLAC/WAV=The Cats Meow!
Look at the SH*T STORM you started!!! LMAO!

I have a friend with a six figure "audiophile" system. His speaker cables alone cost as much as my Camaro.

He has shown off his system to me, inviting me to play my choice CDs and also demonstrating his best vinyl.

My $200 logitech computer speakers sound better. And so do my Skull Candy earbuds plugged into my iPod.

The audiophile stuff is a cult.

Ha, ha, turntable has tracking force, and cushioned adjustable feet. It was ahead of it's time in 76. Realistic amp, turntable and two floor speakers (that have been refurbished in 2010) ran me over $600.00 back then! I paid my Dad back off paper route money in installments. My needle has been replaced several times and it is on a level surface (one time broken by a curious toddler son).

Fellas, Let's get back to the topic at hand, Camaro audio systems, XM

Bluetooth won't carry the same quality as the USB.

And sorry for starting an audio war!

Does the system use the DAC from an ipod when you plug it in? I know some cars do this (i.e. Dodge Charger). If so, you could get a 5th gen classic with the Wolfson DAC and improve the quality

All the "spirited" discussion made me try this today. An OLD computer CD player hooked to the USB and Aux port. It didn't recognize the CD player in the USB. But it did in the port. But it plays and just fits in the console. CD player in a 2015!

I'm no audiophile...far from it. Hell I'm practically deaf in my left ear. I don't find the BA system that bad. I added a powered Rockford Fosgate sub which helped a lot. I do plan on adding and amp and replacing the speakers. I have one blown speaker and hope to have an even better sounding system without breaking the bank.

Will the aux cable carry the high quality audio files as well as the USB?

The grooves made in the 70s or 1950s contain some of the highest resolution available. They were cut all analog and those grooves are filled with a vast amount of information that was not filtered out for digital reasons. Plus, older pressings were taken from fresh master tapes, where as some of the reissued digital releases where made from worn master tapes. It is amazing what better more modern turntables and cartridges are able to "pull" from those grooves made long ago. Unless you hear it for yourself, don't put down what you don't know.
