Insulate supercharger intercooler lines?

Is it worth it? I was thinking something like this. I have my lines routed straight down along the side of the radiator. It's the best fit but I am pretty certain the hoses are going to pick up a lot of heat from the radiator as well as the rest of the engine bay.

No is correct, the heat is generated in the SC and the temp in you engine bay isnt going to cool the fluid on its very brief trip trip to the HX and back.

waste of time and money to wrap the lines...definitely get a reservoir if you don't have one already.

Okay, thanks for the responses. Any data or testing to back this up?

I understand that the heat comes from the IC brick and not the engine bay. I want avoid heat transfer from the hot engine bay to the cool IC coolant through the IC hoses.

Agreed. Reservoir in the works!

Take a temp gun and hit your SC after running and then hit any of the inner fenders. The engine bay isnt your problem. Like stated reservoir first then bigger HX.

Thanks for the response but I think you are missing the point. I understand that the supercharger heats the IC coolant and the benefits of a reservoir. I am just looking at other parts of the system for additional improvement.

Insulating the lines could hold the heat in. Works both ways.

I was thinking that too. I know on the cold hose going TO the lid the water inside the hose should be colder than the air under the hood so there it should help. The line coming FROM the lid back to the HE... that's a little different. At cruise the coolant should be cooler than the under hood air. When the SC is pumping and for a short time thereafter I am not sure. I don't know how hot the return coolant gets but I don't think it will be hotter than peak IAT.

I wouldn't over engineer it.

It's not likely to offer much benefit, but it's also not going to hurt anything.

If I were to do this, I'd focus on the return line from the HX to the lid, and I'd look to use a material that is both reflective and insulating in order to better reject heat via radiation and conduction (you've likely got a bit of both underhood - especially if any of the hoses are line-of-sight to the headers - and the black color of the rubber hoses makes them more susceptible to absorbing radiated heat).

My car is already 8 years old with 200k miles (it is a G8, not a Camaro) but if I was doing this again on a newer car with less miles I would definitely consider an interchiller with a well insulated reservoir!

Now it's time to go find some ZL1 lid quick connect ports. I really like the stock ZL1 setup with the tee/filler cap but I don't want to buy the whole dang hose kit.
