great RS shortage

a friend is looking for an RS,late 5th gen to replace a 2016 challenger that burned to a crisp in his driveway.for some reason it seems like the 5th gens are selling like crazy.even the dealer that had a whole bunch(around 20)last year at this time is down to 4,none of them RS models...what gives?

The older a car gets the harder it is to find specific models that you're looking for as people owning them and people don't sell cars all that often if they like them it's not like when you could just walk in and get it brand new Factory fresh right. But you can't leave us hanging on the Challenger burning to a crisp we need the story on that

Check craigslist a dealer will add a few grand to the same car. If you buy one from an older person chances are they haven't beat it real bad too. With a dealer you never know who owner it before.

he had a 2016 challenger v6,pretty much loaded but no v8.turned the key, started out of his driveway and saw a little flame come out the side of the hood.tried to get it away from his house, made it about 8 feet before it got intense and he had to bail or burn.the whole front of the car was crisp, hood melted 90% away, all aluminum(radiator, etc.)melted into the pavement.when the wrecker driver came to haul it away he had to pull it up off the pavement and scrape the leftovers off.total write off in about 10 minutes.weird thing is that chevy dealer has several 2016 RS camaros still left over, marked as manager specials, with about 3000 miles on them.

Gen 5 continues to be more popular than Gen 6. The numbers tell the story.

Go look on Carmax. I've spotted a few really low mileage 5th gen RS's on there. I've also seen some private ads on Craigslist/Autotrader with really low miles too. Just be sure to thoroughly check out the car for prior body work, especially with Carmax.

This is surprising considering that there are far more 5th gen V6 Camaros built. I would expect more RS to be available.

that was my thought too.possibly all those that were trading for a 2016 or 2017 have already done so.dealer said mine was traded for a 2017 SS vert.,but i have no way of knowing.i do thank them for eating 10k of depreciation that first year though.

Tell him to get a 6th gen rs v6. Just as fast 0 60 as the v8 Challenger RT.
