Oil cooler recommendations; Mishimoto vs Improved Racing

Hi

Took my 2012 L99 SS for circuit, and as many of you already know, despite having the liquid to oil oil cooler, the oil temp gets high too quickly and takes looong time to cool which wastes valuable time at the track not to mention the risk

I'm comparing two products the improved racing cooler via adapter plate(not kit, but they will offer everything to make it a kit) vs the recently released Mishimoto via sandwich plate

I believe the Mishimoto does not delete the operation of the stock oil cooler wheras the IR will do
In your opinion which one will be a better option and why?

Thanks in advance

Can't speak to the Improved plate, but I decided, with the help of work done by forum member X25, to go with a sandwich plate and an aux cooler mounted up front to augment the current "cooler". The OEM system, IMO, is more of an emissions aid, allowing the oil to warm up faster, than a true oil cooler. I believe by leaving that system intact, and adding an air to air system to augment it (like the Mishimoto), I will be able to drop the temps 15-30 degrees. Still waiting to install, and the only part I'm missing now is the cooler itself.

I have the mishimoto kit, basically due to the fact I only had enough room for its sized cooler. I have a lot of coolers going on in the front, so went with that. If no auto trans or Supercharger, get the biggest oil cooler you can -- X25 had the right setup if it's hot where you are (and it is I'm sure ;o) and you track it.

The mishimoto kit is very nice though, and you could always get a bigger cooler...

Here is my install:

after speaking with x25 I knew I wanted to keep the factory cooling setup and add an aux cooler. The mishimoto kit ended up being exactly what I needed. I used it for a track day a few weeks back. It's a well designed setup and It can be upgraded to a larger cooler if necessary down the road.

I agree with both of you, and the kit I purchased from X25 (which he pieced together) is really the same as the Mishimoto kit. He just didn't have the cooler when I bought everything else from him. I appreciated Mishimoto's engineering work, especially when they tested and posted the results for pressure drop, which has concerned me. Am looking at just purchasing their cooler and the slick mounting bracket, but don't know if they will sell it separately...

Oh and it's supposed to be 120 tomorrow and Tuesday......
