Fuel fill question

When filling my tank it works fine until I get between sixteen and seventeen gallons in it. At that point it clicks off. The book says the tank is 18.4 gallons. I can barely squeeze the handle and sometimes it will finish filling other times I have to squeeze a few cents in at a time. When your car averages 12mpg around town you really want to get as much in the tank as you can. I think I will probably have to live with it but it would be great if someone knows a trick to fix this issue.

Pump at slowest or medium speed. When the pump clicks off, hang it up.

If you run it dry and push it to the pump you can maybe get the recommended capacity in it.

Never keep topping it up.

When it shuts off thats enough or you will have EVAP system problems in the future.

These issues could stop you from passing your state emisssions test.

Also running the tank to empty is bad for the fuel pump . They can over heat and die prematurely . I've had it happen on a different GM car .

Like I said, I'm not real worried about it, It's just odd and I wondered if any one else might experience it. And what the Hell is up with the "Low Fuel Level" reading? You can't check to see how many miles you have left when it is on. What a crock.
By the way, I have to run 91 octane (minimum) straight gas and there are only a few stations in Tulsa that carry it so I have to be kind of prudent when the tank gets low.

When the low fuel light comes on, there's usually 2-3 gallons of gas left in the tank. I always tell my wife we're good for at least another 50 miles. She loves it when I say that. Then I go ahead and get gas, because, as they say, happy wife, happy life.

Dang, you can go 50 miles on 2-3 gallons. I could only dream.

Don't top off! You will contaminate and damage the EVAP system.

Doesn't anyone read owner's manuals anymore?

BTW, do you still pump the gas pedal twice before starting the car?

Yeah, I made it less than 20 and had to use Onstar for Gas.
