2015 Z/28 to 2017 Zl1 A10 coming soon...

Okay, as many of you know I unfortunately got t-boned by a minivan driver blowing a stop sign hitting me on my driver side door. My Z/28 was a total loss. The car is super impressive for standing up to such an impact. Witnesses stated my car was airborn after spinning around and hitting the curb resulting my car facing the opposite position when the car stopped. I had to get out of the passanger door. My hat I was wearing was behind the passenger seat. Airbags deployed and the driver window and seat airbag truly saved me from going to the hospital with stitches in my head. I had a huge bump on my head, knee was blown up pretty bad for a week like a softball, and I got beat up badly with some lower spine issues (tears and herniated discs) with on going bi lateral epidurals and constant pain. Super frustrated that I lost this car and that I am still in constant pain which is super driving me nuts.

I wanted to replace this car with another two door four seater that was going to meet my demands of a fun driver. I drove several cars including a C63S, 2017 GTR, 2015 GTR, Mustang 350, Hellcat, etc. I ended up going with the 2017 ZL1 because it was the most fun to drive with the latest technology from heads up display, to A10, Nav, mylink, compatible with smartphones, etc. It is truly an impressive car. I did not want to get the ZL1 1LE because I fell in love with the A10.

The 2017 ZL1 is definitely a smaller car interior wise. Their is alot less room for passengers in the back seat - almost to the point that you really can not have any adults back there...a big difference. The little ones will be okay but if you are 6' or taller you will have to move your seat up to accomodate someone back there. The seats are just like our Z/28 seats in regards to fitment. The amenities in the ZL1 is night and day difference with the Z/28. If you are looking for all the latest tech look no further than the ZL1. But, I must say I do like the purity of the Z/28. Their is something to be said about how pure that car is and that was the joy about owning that car. I honestly never drove around with the stereo on...that LS7 was music to my ears!

Brakes - these brakes feel the exact same as the Z/28 brakes. They are just as good. The cons - brake dust and they do not look near as badass as CCB brakes on the Z/28. For that I will still prefer the Z/28 brakes. But if you drove the car you would not feel the difference.

Handling - in track mode you are simply driving the Z/28. It truly feels exactly the same. The ZL1 feels stiffer actually. zero roll just like the Z/28 but still feels stiffer. Brake hard the nose does not go anywhere just like the Z/28. The ZL1 is extremely impressive in the handling department. Car definitely feels more agile at lower speeds.

Speed/quickness - hands down the ZL1 is just a blast to drive. The supercharger whine and how fast the car accelerates with the A10 is extremely impressive. You just do not realize how fast you are going in just auto mode let alone putting it in manual. It is hard to tell if this is faster than my Z/28 that had more whp than this ZL1 because of the manual but my gut is saying the Z/28 with how mine was set up would beat the ZL1. It was running 718 whp so that would make sense.

Trunk space - smaller in the ZL1

Some cool features on the ZL1 that I have not used yet and will try to wait until the 1,500 mile break in is the Launch control and front wheel lock for burnouts...now that is going to be FUN!

I will keep you posted as I get to drive this car more often. I truly miss my Z/28 but to be honest this car sort of has the best of both worlds wrapped into it. For those tracking the car I would say stay with the Z/28. An NA motor will have less heat soak etc. if you are a serious track guy. For the weekend warrior for track days once a month you can not go wrong with either.

I will be doing a cat back exhaust soon and CAI. I may even do some lowering springs because this car does sit up alot higher than the Z/28. Keep you posted!
