Melling oil pump recommendations
Hi
I've done some search here for the oil pump I should go with when installing the VVT cam(AFM delete) on my 2012 SS L99, I saw that 10355 is the one recommenede for AFM(Which I will delete), I will also install an oil cooler so higher pressure is a plus I checked the service manual and my oil pan capacity should be 8 quarts(with filter); base on that I think I need to go with either the 10355 or the 10296(so no risk of emptying the oil pan here) Which model should I go with? Thanks in advance Last edited by Inspiro; 07-21-2017 at 01:29 PM. |

Not sure which one it is, but I went with the high pressure/standard volume one.

10296 is replacement for the ls3 pump.
10355 is replacement for the L99 pump. The 10355 is higher volume to keep up with the demands of the VVT system. That being said, the only time I use the 10355 is when we build an engine with looser clearances on the bearings for larger power output setups. The stock L99 pump is already a much better pump than the LS3, they are not problematic, and we keep them on the VVT cars we do cam swaps on. |

Oil cooler stock is more of a oil heater..LOL and the stock pump is something usually people leave in doing milder cams on the l99 as it is higher volume than the ls3 pump stock due to the AFM..... Just FYI ...many BTW block off the oil cooler stock which can leak over time, I think Bo White did it and well anyone usually looking to deal with the leak that read up on it. And most shops would recommend higher volume not higher pressure.... Good Luck. LOL look GPI chimed in while I was typing....
