Looks like I'll be springing for the upgraded sound. Way to earn an extra buck GM.

I remember buying a head unit for my 4runner the alpine had 4 x 45. I don't think they'd have an amp to give it only 60 watts extra... I sold my 4runner back in the mid 90's. |

^I'm going to stay with my JL and quite possibly pick up another. All depends on how it sounds from the factory. But, I gotta build a box for my two current JL subs. Man, is this system going to rock!!!

My 1998 Mustang has a Mach 460 sound system. 460 watts.. That was amazingly the best sound system I had heard in a car at the time. Since then I have heard higher quality systems that have less wattage in general but more balance. If you are looking for extreme bass, you need to go aftermarket as you won't get that with 245 watts in this system.
However I will be upgrading to this option as it is the best deal in this case and you get speakers which are set in place properly and will not vibrate like most after markets will.. That and Boston acoustics does make high quality speakers, much higher than the ones in my Mach 460 were even though they sounded great back then.... |

well since this is Boston im assuming that that will be 245 watts continuous and not peak, im pretty sure that the old monsoon systems were rated at 500 watts but that was peak not continuous.
and im almost positive there would have to be a separate amp some were since no factory head unit has ever had near that power before, i dont even see how someones gonna replace the factory head unit and if they do its gonna totally screw up the look of the dash

Yes!!!I am quite happy having Boston acoustic's speakers in my Camaro, just hope that GM produces a stereo with enough clarity, noise reduction, power to make the most of these speakers...
I would also like to have a 10 band EQ intergrated in the the stereo,as opposed to the standard bass, mid, treble controls, that's not enough EQ for me,or the "autotone"(rock, jazz, country, etc.) |

I just got my 80 watt setup in the Saab working properly, granted it was the added speakers with bass elelemtns in the back that I got fixed, but DAMN it sounds A LOT BETTER. I can't even image how much better a 245watt stereo with high end speakers will sound like!

If I get the RS, I am getting the upgraded stereo. But if I get an SS, I just want to hear that engine roar.

Ratings for watts mean absolutely nothing without clarification of how they are measuring the wattage. Like the BS "2000 watts total music power" is just that BS, peak ratings don't mean a lot either. My work van has a JVC head unit with 4X25 watts (which does not have an RMS rating), but I run two JBL three way boxes (10", 4" and a horn tweeter) with an old Teac 65 watt RMS continuos per channel stereo amp and it does pretty well. A true 245 watts RMS continuos stereo in a Camaro would be pretty awesome, should be close to the output I get on my music synthesizer rig which has a Yamaha 265 watts RMS per channel stereo amp. And I can't imagine being able to stay in a Camaro with that 265 watt setup pumped up.
