Anyone know what's happening to my paint?

I just noticed this little circle on my roof right above the windshield. Don't know what is happening to my paint. Corrosion? Damage? Please help me out.

Looks like you left bird poop on too long.

Exactly what it looks like. My hood has a few of them, although not as bad as that.

Birds around my house are freakin' toxic.

I don't think there was ever bird poo there. It's small like the size of your baby finger nail.

If the car has been repainted, this would be a reaction to materials that are not compatible. It could also be caused by bird turd.

It's original paint. I don't think there was ever a bird turd there. But bird droppings can destroy your paint that badly? Also what would be the best fix?

I agree with the others about it being most likely from a bird turd or possibly a drop of tree sap being left there too long. My daughter's first car got a couple of spots on her trunk that looked just like that. She had been parking under a tree at school for the shade and got a few bird droppings on the trunk lid and didn't get around to washing them off for a few days. I had the trunk lid repainted by a friend and she learned not to park under trees, as well as to give her vehicles the once over when they have been sitting out for any time ... still does it to this day.

If you scratch at it with your nail does it catch at all? To me it looks like the paint is cracked from an impact, most likely a rock.

It feels rough to the touch. Yeah my nail would catch on it. If it's cracked from an impact what would be the best course of action to take?

Bird guano is no doubt some nasty shit but that looks much more solvent-like. Like a drop of Brak-Clean, brake fluid or something along those lines. It bubbled the paint. Are you seeing another woman ala Fatal Attraction?

For a normal bird turd, if any etching has started I will wet sand and compound. If caught in time, a cleaning and polish can get it out.

But I think your area may need a respray or more involved fix. It looks deep and the cracks are very wide.

Etching would look more like a hazed water spot...Touch up paint would cover it for the average person but you will know it's there...
