Accountability
I have a 2015 ss. So I was in a minor fender bender a few weeks ago. Picked up my car and noticed the trunk button did not work. At the same time I was told that the bracket that holds the SS emblem on the front grill did not get ordered but they will order it next day. A week has gone by, I dropped off my car Thursday, 10 Aug. My wife calls today and was told "Well the button works but the bracket never got ordered again, what do you want to do". So I pick it up, I get in the car and say, what the ***k is this. I go back inside and tell the clerk. And they guy who is managing my car repairs is gone so she texted him to call me asap. This is not normal and if I pull in the button, it practically comes out. It's just frustrating but I am definitely holding them accountable. Whats is crazy is my driver's front bumper was where the damage was.

Cut them some slack, lol. I took my Camaro door panel off and the same thing happened to my trunk button when I was removing the wire harness clip. I'm not a rookie and have worked on door panels of many cars of the years.
The trunk button bezel and trunk button have tiny fragile little engagement ears that all must be precisely aligned and oriented just so or it all pops out of place or up like what is shown in your picture. It took me 3 tries and several episodes of experimenting until I finally made the button and bezel behave. At one point it was even recessed too far in to the door. Worked on it doing tweaks on and off for a week, until it was perfect again. And the front SS Emblem with mounting bracket in the grill is an amazing feat to take apart and get all back together and installed. Those assembly line workers must have the patience of a Saint. The worst part is separating the two parts of the SS bracket when removing.

I hear you, and the shop guy managing my repairs, it's not his fault. I don't think he did a quality check and to be honest I probably would t either. It's a button, how hard can it be. It's just frustrating because I can't give them the car during the week as I have to drive it to work and my wife drives further and early than me for work. Aaaarrrrgggg. And at the end of it all. The accident was my fault so no one to blame but me.

Replacing the SS emblem in the grill is a total pain if tried in place. It took me an hour.

Had a dealer break my trunk button also when checking what was up with my Driver power mirror. Mirror was loose plug. I used the button when I dropped the car off to get work stuff out of the trunk. They told me it came in already broke and non functioning.... Taped the plug to the outside of the door panel and left the pieces of the button in a bag in the door pocket, minus the actual electronics of the switch. They were very helpful in having a quote and price ready if I wanted to order it and have them install it. After a few phone calls, they took care of it no charge...
I get its a fragile switch, I get easy mistakes on this stuff. But do not tell me something I used 2 seconds before giving you my key, was already broke when it came in. Stuff happens, they broke it, they pay for it. I feel your pain Jokrz.

Hold yourself accountable and stop scuffing the driver panel with your feet.
![]() Kidding aside, take the vehicle back to the responsible body shop until all the repairs are completed to your satisfaction. |

The wires to your door feed through it from the fender that is designed to Crumple to absorb damage, the dirty finger prints show lack of detailing but not foot scuffing..LOL And yes the little switch has been reported here many times to be touchy bugger for the trunk when removing the panel for the door. Many auto body shops get rushed to give the customer back the car ASAP even if its not detailing etc.... SO relax, and just come back some time when they have a hour to remove and replace the door panel and emblem. Frankly I would as I have ditch the stock emblem and go to Sparks restoration as I did, or emblem pros and the Bow tie its bye bye.....and you just have to reach through the panel that holds the hood latch to attach them.......

The trunk switch is actually two pieces, the bezel and then the actual switch. Once the bezel is in place you the install the switch, you have to play with a bit because it will only lock into place one way! Some months back I was building headlight switch modifications for the 94-96 Impalas, part of this modification was relocating the impala's trunk switch. Not wanting a bright yellow switch showing on the dash I opted for the new Camaro trunk switch.
I believe I purchased about 150 of them from Chevrolet and still have ONE switch and bezel remaining. If you or anyone else needs these two parts I will let it go for $20.00 shipped to you. Both are still in the GM package. I am thinking yours only popped out of its secured position, turn it slowly while pushing down gently it may pop right back into place. |
