Tonneau Cover

Just recently picked up a used tonneau cover for my 2012.

It appears to be the new style. It has the bungee cord attachment under the cover. However, I didn't get them, presumably the previous owner didn't realize to take them off. But as often as these 'clips and bungees' are mentioned I've not seen any pictures to help confirm its the newest style.

Drove around this weekend with the cover on, 75mph and also did a high rise bridge across the Lake which has nasty crosswinds.

Saw a little bit of lift in the middle but nothing that made me overly nervous.

However I think I should add the studs, but I need to source them somewhere and so that they fit.

Lots of info here but few pics that actually show because of remote hosting or whatever.

I appreciate any direction or help offered.

Are you referring to the studs that are attached behind the rear seat? They came to the dealer from the factory inside the Tonneau cover bag along with the Allen wrench that manually retracts the top in case the pump fails.

You should definitely get them if you don't have them now or your cover will blow off with nothing to hold it in a bad wind. You can go to a dealership and order them. Can't cost that much........

yes that's what I'm referring to.

I cant see a spot where they attach. Come to think of it I've never seen an allen wrench for taking the top down manually.

Guess I need to check the glove box when I get home.

The downside of buying used

They are supposed to be installed by the dealer at time of delivery from the factory in what they call PDI - Post Delivery Inspection. There are two holes (one on each side) where the studs mount. I know all this because before the Flash, I bought a new '12 2LT Camaro ragtop and the dealer forgot to install the studs. They were in a plastic bag inside the tonneau cover along with that wrench, as I said above. Just take it in to a dealer, their service writer should know exactly what you need unless he is a stupid idiot. LOL

Good luck.

I've been up to 130+ with no tonneau with the top down and zero issues.

The cover completes a "finished" look. No issues for me running with or without it.

My LT has the bolts, but didn't come with tonneau. I'd only use a tonneau for a car show anyway. And so far no car shows, seems all late models are all about after market lighting at neighborhood shows. Not my scene.

well I did find the allen wrench in the glove box. So if my pump ever fails I won't have to go searching for a proper sized wrench

No studs in the bag or the glove box, just the driver .

Guess I need to source these somewhere.

I've been driving with just the top down, no big deal IMHO but the tonneau cover does give the car a really nice finished look. Also minimizes the chance of any crap flying into it while cruising down the highway.

I won't use it everyday since I never leave my top down at work and seldom at stores etc.

It goes on and off in less than a minute. Hardest part is folding it up and putting it back into it's carry bag. So not a big deal. As I said I just really like the finished look.

The biggest surprise I've had is I just had MRT 2 installed and I've seen an MPG increase of around .5 mpg over the last few days. Maybe all that weight the car lost. While it'll never pay for itself it's a nice addition to a little more sounds from the exhaust.

The Allen wrench is used to manually put the top up in an emergency it isn't used for those studs.

I had to purchase my Allen wrench from my local hardware store, as my dealer did not have the wrench in stock or even the ability to order one. The trick is to ensure you have a wrench with at least 8 inches of length (I forgot the mm size)

never reported back.

Got the bolts and plastic studs from GM parts direct. $22 for 2 bolts, two plastic studs and still had to go to hardware store to get locking nuts.

I feel like I was bent over and abused in the worst possible way.

However I really like the way the car looks with the cover on.

Now if I can just figure out the proper way to fold the cover for when I'm putting it in it's leather sleeve I'll be happy.

Me either!!! I'm on my second one because the first one tore due to the weird foldup. So mine just lays in the trunk.
