I'm not exactly sure what to do at this point. I don't want to install a transmission cooler only to find that the engine temp is the bigger issue, or vice versa. Maybe just do nothing? How much do coolers run and what's the labor time going to look like if I have a shop install it?
I do look at my gauges when I am running the straights where I can glance down and see what they are showing but it still doesn't definitely say which temp is controlling the adjusted shift points. I am going the route with a trans cooler first, as it can't hurt to run a cooler trans temp and give some longevity to my transmission. And since I run a SCCA Street Touring class, I cannot change anything related to my radiator size or capacity so it limits what I can do and still stay within class rules. Installing a trans cooler would be an easy install too.

If you can't change the radiator, change the fluid mix. 100% distilled and 2 bottles of water wetter would help temps -- trans cooler, the biggest B&M you can get, helps a ton. Just use the cooler only and remove the lines from the radiator...

I got the ADM kit ran NCM, then upgraded the cooler to better control trans temps...

Thanks for the info and figuring all of this stuff out the hard way.
What's the lowest air temp I can go with the distilled/water wetter combo? I'm assuming nothing below freezing.
Have you ever recorded trans temps on a track day before the trans cooler and then after? I read where you're getting about 20 - 25 degrees cooler in normal driving after the cooler install.

I don't drive below 40*, but yes freezing temps will stop you with the 100% distilled water. That is why I change out the coolant 2 times a year IF I intend to drive when it's cold. Usually, 40* means, 30* while driving ;o).

You could compromise and do an 80/20 distilled/dexcool mix. Good to about 15* if you are in a warmer climate and don't want to do the drain and fill twice a year.

I have a mixing chart that shows the mix.

Trans temps were ~250* before the cooler, 218* after the bigger cooler, in 96* temps so, it helped a lot. This also including the B&M pan and SUV filter in the before and after comparison.

I do have the bigger Radiator so that helps. I did notice with stacked coolers, temps rose, thus the 100% distilled and 2 bottles of water wetter in the summer months.

Mixing chart:

I use an anti-freeze tester to get a mix based on freeze protection.
