2012 2ss convertible
Just picked up our new to us car. It is a 2012 2ss rs inferno orange. Being I live in Minnesota, unfortunately I am going to have to store it soon. I know I need to change the oil fill fuel tank add seafoam and put it on a trickle charger. It will be stored inside in a heated floor building. My question is since it is a convertible do I put a cover on it? Kinda worried about mice and the convertible top if I put a cover on it. Any other advice you guys have would be much appreciated . Thanks for your input.

I do not cover mine. As far as mice try Bounce dryer sheets and a couple bait stations for the mice

Congrats on the purchase. I am also from MN. My car sits in my unheated 3rd stall of my garage over the winter. I do the following:

I use a couple of those electric mouse repels, that Menards or Lowes sells in both my garages, work great.

For the battery, I recommend a C-TEK battery maintainer. There are connection options and you do not have to disconnect your battery. It will bring your battery up to full charge and then cycle off and on as necessary to maintain the battery and extend it's life. I have one on my 2013 Corvette Grand Sport and the 2015 2SS RS.

Congrats on your purchase!
If you use a "smart" battery charger and avoid disconnecting the battery, you might not have to reset certain electric system components in the spring. I believe the Tire Pressure Monitoring System is one of those but I am not sure. Although unlikely to be an issue for you, you might want to consider putting 4' x 4' squares of plywood underneath each tire to help avoid flat spots. Race Ramps has some compressed foam flat stoppers that also work well if you are concerned about this issue. Lastly, through someone else's post, I learned that in my car, if I mash the throttle pedal before turning on the ignition and engaging the starter, the engine will turn over, but it won't start. So in the spring before the first drive, I do that to recirculate oil a bit before proceeding with a normal engine start. Do this at your own risk. I do put on the parking brake, put the car in neutral, and have the clutch in during the process. Hope you get to enjoy the car a few times this month before storing it! |
