M1 Concourse Track Day, October 14th

Anyone in or near Michigan interested in tracking their car on Saturday, October 14th at M1 concourse? If so, shoot me a message! I am in the process of getting enough people together to rent out the facility.

Cars and coffee in the morning followed by track time from 11:30 to 6pm

M1 is doing open track day October 15th but for $275 again. That's too steep in my opinion. I'd rather drive 3 hrs in Ohio and spend $190

You're only a 2:45hr drive to Gingerman. They have openings for this weekend's Gridlife event. $280 for sat and sun in the hpde intermediate group. Or $230 for CGI Monday. They also have and open track weekend on the 20/21st for $300 or $200 for one day.

M1 is fun, I did it a few weeks ago on their Hagerty day. But kinda tight/small. Great sports car track. I'm just not a big fan of being surrounded by guard rails. Dip a wheel off and you are bending metal. Felt like I had to be real careful. Gingerman is more open, out in the beautiful western Michigan countryside.

I'd like to do Mid Ohio sometime. Do they have open track days/hpde? I looked at their schedule seemed like mostly club events.

Gingerman is definitely on the list to try. I also like Waterford. $300 for the weekend doesn't sound so bad. Is the track smooth or rough? Waterford is kinda rough and hard on tires. And yes mid Ohio does some otd but not alot. I went in August on a Thursday. It started after 5pm. Was an awesome track though .

Gingerman is in tip top shape. Was just repaved a couple years ago. It really flows well for bigger cars. Considered one of the safest road courses in the country as the runoffs are mostly just grassy countryside. The guard rail protecting the pits is protected at corner exit by a big sand trap.

Turn 10B can be tough on the left front tire, as it is a fast off camber sweeper. If you go balls out 10/10th on 10B, your left front will be screaming for mercy. But... easy to take it easy on your stuff by just taking that corner fast but not 10/10th fast. Brakes wise, just make sure you have good Dot 4 and at least 50% pad... and not ceramic pads. OE Brembo pads work great at Gingerman, or upgraded metallic racing pads. I've see ceramics send people into the sand trap... so avoid ceramic pads at all costs. Great for low dust, will fail on a big road course.

I really like M1, close and convenient for SE MI. But if you want to let it rip out in the beautiful countryside... head to the Gingerman, very worth the drive. You can even camp in the campground, fish... it's like a great campground/racetrack combo.

Sounds awesome. Maybe that will be the next track day.

Currently have Hawk Ceramic yellow pads, but after reading Russ's comments, I may put the stock pads back on if I can get up the energy to get'r done before I leave on Sunday.
