Garage remote

My convertible has those buttons for programming your garage door opener. I would like to use them but have one question, do those buttons work even if the vehicle is locked? Just wondering if I leave the car out of the garage with the top down, can someone walk up and open my garage door?

I would sit in the car, lock the door and try that yourself so you know for sure

You can take the visor ones in and out if you’re concerned. They’re not identical things.

I have one in the Camaro and our Malibu which sit outside and one in the Corvette and the 69 Camaro in the garage. I don't get too worried about it because I put a giant padlock through the garage door track when we are gone anywhere overnight. During the day there isn't a problem because of the nosey neighbors.

Then don't program the built in one. I like not having my home and work remotes hanging on my visor like they did on my Tundra. It's a convenience, not mandatory.

Very simple solution. Put the TOP UP if you are concerned about the door opening. First off, if the top is down, one would assume that you are home. I can hear my garage door going up and know when it's activated. You also shouldn't leave your Camaro alone with the top down anyway.

When you're home (or at night), just turn the door opener off. Mine has a little switch on the wall mounted. button that does the trick. The big button on the wall unit will still work, but none of the remotes will.

If you are tall like I am, you can pull the cord on the door mechanism that hangs down, disengaging the automatic opener. If someone pushes the button the opener runs, but the door doesn't move.

Why? I see on here plenty of people who leave their tops down for months.

Mine have that too. I forgot about that. Thanks!

Also solid advice about pulling the cord. Mine are screw drive so engaging/disengaging are pretty easy.

Not in the open driveway unattended for long periods. They leave them down in locked garages. Why increase the chance of some bird shitting in it, rain, etc., including vandals. Would you leave the car, with top down, unattended for hours on end??? Not me.

So the assumption is for a several month period they only drive from their house to their house?

I’m new to convertibles, and don’t have a strong opinion, but I personally don’t only drive to places with locked garages. I go to work, restaurants, stores, etc. I would assume I’m not the only one.
