Did mine today. Sanded the VHT with 1500 and cleared it. Then sanded the clear with 2000 and used some ultimate compound. Came out pretty darn nice and looks factory IMO not blotchy at all. I masked out the center part because I liked the way it looked with the big worm film

You take the grey scotch-brite (the color is the grit level: green, brown, grey, white being the most common colors, green the harshest, like 180 grit, white being like 4000 grit,) and do the whole lens so your tinted clear coat has a surface it can stick to. You can tint the clear any color you want really, and the more coats you spray on, the darker or more colorful the final product will be. The more coats you spray, the more light is blocked. I normally spray 2-3 coats of the black tinted clear on the light depending on what is wanted, then shoot 2 coats of regular non tinted clear on top of that for a surface you can buff without effecting the tint darkness. I usually use ppg or akzo-nobel products. Just make sure your base coat is solvent based if your using a solvent based clear.

If you have a 10-13 vinyl is going to both look better, be a lot quicker, and overall a lot less work. Here is a good description of the paint them route An old thread with some photobucket issues but the write-up is on point. |

Vinyl is quicker, easier, and removable if need be!

Rust-Oleum and nightshades are just fine.. you don't have to sand the lenses at all before you paint them just clean them really good.. after the paint is cured you can just polish them and they look perfect and if you want to take a step further you can clear coat over on top of the after it's polished and then polish out the clear coat.. no sandpaper was ever involved..looks deep and clear .no haze like the vinyl... and if you ever decide to take it off use is Goof Off and clean rag and it will not hurt the plastic at all. Then just repolish the lenses.

Just an fyi, according to VHT "Warning: Once applied to a plastic lens, VHT Nite-Shades™ cannot be satisfactorily removed. For off-road use only."
