CAI question
Ok with all the talk of CAI. My car is a daily driver. Probably not getting raced. So does a CAI help me, guess the only thing I can think of is if it helps gas milage?
Thanks

It can improve mileage...but most will not notice it....What it does is increase HP and TQ. I like it because in a manual car, it is smoother and easier to drive...that is just my thoughts.
I would rec the Roto-Fab intake. If you have specific questions or need pricing info, let me know I would be happy to help. |

Save yourself $500. If you are not planning on doing any other mods why bother. The stock intake is really not that bad.

By the time you have driven 4-5000 miles your improved mileage has paid for the intake! THERE's SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT! Pat

Here is some more food for thought. If you do not plan to mod the car other than a CAI why bother. Most dealerships will hassle you anyway with warranty claims if you switch intakes. In fact, here in Raleigh, NC our most well know dealership will void your warranty on the engine if you add an aftermarket intake. With that being said maybe if he bought the one GM offers he will be fine with warranty. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is mine.....

Yeah thanks all.
I am thinking since its my DD and will not be racing her, that I might be better off leaving it stock. Since the 98Z28 might be turned into a weekend fun car spend the money on her .

Now lets say you actually gain 1mpg from the CAI (which Im not convinced) so you drive 5000. Now you have 5000/31=161.2 Now lets say you buy gas for $2.50 a gallon. 2.50x166.6= $416 then your new mileage 2.50x161.2 $403. So you saved (if you always get 30mpg and dont beat on it ever) over 5000 miles a whopping $13. That will totally pay for a CAI. Quote:
Any podunk dealer that will void a warranty over a CAI would and should be avoided at all costs. No auto work, no car sales, no part sales. Let them know that next time your there. There is no way a CAI will damage an engine. Thats like saying putting seat covers on your seat will void the bumper to bumper warranty if your seat motor blows. I would say most shops are looking to get out of doing warranty work because it pays less. |
