OBD reader causing glitches?

I’ve used my OBD reader several times and have never really had a problem except for once about a year ago where I disconnected it with out backing out of the system and when I turned on the car I had no ABS, traction control and the main screen said service transmission something fail, I don’t remember what had failed. Turned the car off and it sat for hours while I was at work. Came back out and the light were off, everything worked. Learned to not do that anymore...I have a huge exhaust leak between my bolts atak and header, hate but joint connections.... this has been turning on my engine light and making the engine think it’s misfiring. The leak should be fixed next week so not very worried about that.I think is what’s been causing issues with my stabilitrac, it will flash “service stabilitrac” randomly which turns off my traction control and a few other related traction issues (can’t think of what they all are right now, like 3 lights together on the right side right next to the traction control light) it will stay like that for a little bit then go back to normal. This happens on and off at random. So my question is can the OBD reader cause the car to glitch and make it think certain systems have failed? Last night I had it plugged in to turn off the engine light for random misfire caused by my exhaust leak, backed out of the system correctly but quickly and took the key out before disconnecting, when I turned the car on it said “service power steering drive with care” I had no power steering or abs and it though the brake was on.... turned off and on a few times, problem still there so I drove home like that. I get home turn it off then on, no change. Decide to hook obd reader while praying to the car gods... back out of system slowly then turn car on and everything is normal, no lights on. Sorry about writing a novel but has anyone ever experienced this? Oh my ac controls will randomaly not work either until I turn the car off and let it sit for a few hours but that’s a whole other issue 😂

I get an error message when I have OBD II reader plugged in when the key is shut off. My solution has been to unplug while the car is still running, then turn the key off.

Knee jerk reaction would be to research the power and ground problems on this car. A lack of power to the system causes many strange problems. Many guys on here fixing grounds and the main power wire from the trunk... My .02

Sounds like you already have electrical issues with the car, so I doubt your code reader is to blame. Except for the fact that you can use an OBDII reader to erase CEL's, it doesn't have the ability to make any changes to the ECM/BCM. If you were talking about something like a SCT, I might be more inclined to agree it could be responsible in some way.

Agree, check connections, grounds and your battery's condition under load.

What make of ODB do you have? I use the SCT and have had no issues with disconnecting it. In addition to grounding issues, I'd have the battery checked out. I'm on my third battery, when they start going south they can cause (strange) intermittent electrical issues.
