Just a "correction" :p...the L76, and the LS3 are still from the same family. They're both generation-IV engines...not that that's a bad thing. Just pointing it out.

Remember, the L76 should give the Camaro a power to weight ratio roughly equal to that of the Challenger SRT8. So it will be possible to have the class leading performance we have been promised with the L76. Then if/when they release another V8 it will just spank everthing. However, the LS2 in the concepts was to represent the top level Camaro. And lastly, we aren't to believe anything we've read about engines so all this is now pointless

No problem I just thought I remember another topic regarding a new Gen V 6.0L engine....I guess I got that mixed up with the existing L76

sorry. no i ment 1 v8 at first and then the big boy model after that. only 1 v8

However, I've given up guessing what the engines are. Because any knowlege I thought I had on the subject has been wisked away by Fbodfather's kind words.
I've read magazines claiming that the LS3 WILL be put in. I've read mags claiming the L76 WILL be in. And I've read articles with the the 3.9 WILL be in it. So...I can't believe any of that.

And I'm not complaining.
yeah i just wish we hada hint to the v8. like hp rating from ? to ?.

Sorry to digg this back up but I was thinking today what I would accecpt in an engine option,
All want is a V8 Rummble...

I hope it's the L76 with DOD and AFM. I want Power and Economy.
thats what will sell, If I can get 30 mpg highway and be able to use E85 or regular gas in a muscle car, I will be happy

Fyi...DoD, and AFM are the same thing GM decided to change the name a couple of years after introduction, though...

And +1!!! That's exactly what I want in a motor. ~375 hp will make me plenty happy. Of course....I wouldn't turn down more

+2. I want a balance of power and economy, all with a V8 rumble and torque.

Screw it...I want 450hp AND 35 mpg's!!! What....I can ask, right?!

I've been at 335 or so hp for the longes time. I think I"m ready to up that. But, it's going to have to be over 400 to make me happy.

the 361hp would be fine, keep the cost down a bit, then throw some mods on and you will be at 400 in no time. Heck with 6.0L a tune, headers and cam would just about do it.

I don;t know if there going to throw the LS3 430 hp in right away, it's new and the Vette will have it first, then I see it coming in 2012 Camaro. GM will not play there whole hand just yet, if you put the top motor in right off the bat you will not have anything in the future to toy with. look at the GTO started off with LS1 then LS2. This is why I think the Camaro will be in the 3500 weight range because it will have to be faster than the 06 GTO and even with 400hp it weighed in at close to 3800lbs. so @3500 with 361hp it's going too scoot. look at my Mustang, 3480lbs at 298 RWHP 312R WTQ Dynoed and run 12.8 in the 1/4
I would expect the Camaro to run 13.0 full stock trim at that weight and HP (of course givin drivetrain loss it would be around 330RWHP 355RWTQ) But I also suspect that if the L76 is used the HP will be higher that todays engine.
so I think we will see a little more HP and if thats the case, the Camaro will be a solid high 12 sec car Stock easy.

I don't know about you but I would be pleanty happy with that.

My reasoning is that the Challenger's entry-level V8 is strongly rumored to have upwards of 380hp...Now, to us - that doesn't mean much untill we know the wieght of the car, because that's generally how we think.

But all the other blokes out there - they're going to want to see competetive hp numbers...so, a modified LS3 (i.e AFM) would fit the bill. And Corvette will have had it for ~1 year by the time Camaro comes out...so the timing's about right.

It's now anyone's guess what the engine will be. Because of Scott's "Forget everything you knew about engines" remark. All that does is excite me. Because they're not going to cancel the L76, or LS3 from going in and slap an inferior engine in there....obviously we're going to get better!!!

+1

For me it'd better be closer to 500 than 400.
