Back when I was working every day I owned a Saturn Sky. People on the Saturn forum felt like a lot on here do about their Camaro. They couldn't understand why I loved driving my Sky every day to work, A 50 mile round trip. I would just tell them it just makes it easier to get up in the morning to go to work because the drive actually prepared me for the day. And at the end of the day to put the top down for the 45 minute drive home ( sometimes I would take the long way home just to drive more ) released the stress from my job.
Now I don't have a job, but I still take every available opportunity to drive our Camaro. And when the weather permits, the top goes down!

It's ok if you don't drive your car every day if you want. Just as it's ok to drive it every day if you want. It's your car and your money, do with it as you see fit.

Your post reminds me of my college days (2005-2007) in Gainesville. I had a low mile 1995 M3 that was awesome to zip around Gainesville in. I couldn't imagine having my 1LE during my time at UF. Go Gators!

I understand the reasons for buying a "winter beater", but even cars bought for that reason do not have to be little penalty boxes on wheels. If you can find something that's at least a little bit fun to drive it'll be easier to get past winters.

What's wrong with the corolla winter car? It's the best option possible in my opinion. Over 30MPG, FWD, EXTREMELY reliable (300k+ miles easy) and extremely cheap. Put some winter tires on that bad boy and you're good to go

Is it fun to drive? Would you ever really want to drive it if you didn't feel you had to in order to avoid risking your Camaro or exposing it to the harsher elements?

Obviously this has to be your perception rather than mine, but I would never buy a car that I found boring to drive and had to be tolerated rather than enjoyed.

What we have done is kept rather than traded cars that we had already bought with "fun to drive" as a high priority, and used the car best suited for winter driving whenever there was a choice. Sometimes that was the newer RWD car, sometimes a newer FWD car, sometimes the older FWD car. Right now the best winter car is my wife's DD AWD car - unless she's at work when I get to pick from two FWD cars if I also need to go someplace.

When I think of winter driving I don't think of it as "fun" in anyway no matter what vehicle I am in. I would much rather put 75 miles a day of DD to work/school in a corolla than almost any other vehicle during the winter. Yeah in the summer I take the Camaro once in a while to work/school. As much as I love General Motor vehicles.... not many can beat the reliability, cheapness, and fuel efficiency all in one of a Corolla... (I know i'm about to get a lot of hate for saying that )

I don't see anything wrong with a Corolla as a "summer" car or a Camaro as a "winter" car.

Fun to drive is such a subjective term. Just put your butt in your seat and enjoy. Everyone else needs to butt out.
