this thread is interesting, I don't quite understand the outrage. I am 42 and am all for people standing up and taking responsibility for their actions. But doing a donut I would not consider abuse to the car. If an SS can't do a donut then GM has a defective car and needs to address the issue. I don't see this as much different than mashing the gas and doing a burnout. Some have done that with their M6 and the output shaft snapped. Is that abuse ? No, I think this car should be able to handle mashing the gas (stock) without the drive shaft snapping or transmission being left on the ground.

Assuming this was done in a parking lot, away from people then I don't see a big problem with this, and see it much like a burnout. Avis rents these SS's and charges much more than a typical rental exactly because they know guys renting these want to see what they will do. If you are only renting it for looks then rent the V6 and save some money.

This is also why it did work over 1200 rpm. With the increased rpm of the pump pulley, the thinner fluid would still function.

This is a common problem on early Miatas when running gymkanas. All the turning heats the fluid and the power steering goes out for a second. Not a big deal at all.

OP... the car is fine, you dont need to tell them jack. Return the car and walk away. I cant believe all the holier then thou comments in here.

I been floating around from time to time ... you guys are becoming asses ... serious, it's why I don't post much anymore

I guess I was brought up different than you. If I'm using someone elses property no matter what it is I treat it with respect. Your crazy if you think doing donuts isn't abusing a car and I'm sure Avis doesn't want people out there doing donuts in their cars. He chose to do what he did so he needs to pay for his actions. Why should Avis or Gm pay for something he did, that he shouldn't have been doing in the first place. I get tired of people these days trying to push off something they did onto other people. I guess if you stay in a hotel ,you feel that gives you the right to trash the place and expect the hotel to cover the damages.

well is mashing the gas abusing the car ? under some cases GM does say yes, they see if the back tire is worn more than front and have already denied some claims because of that on camaros in this forum. So if you rent an avis car, step hard on the gas and the transmission falls apart or the output shaft snaps did you abuse the car ? GM may say yes I say bull crap, what will avis say ? You are renting a high performance car from Avis, not a ford fusion. You are renting it specifically because it's high performance otherwise you would have rented the V6 and for a lot less. Why on earth would Avis provide rental SS cars ? Just because the SS logo looks cooler and is worth a MUCH higher rental fee ? If so why not place SS badges on the ford fusions and charge $180 a day ? No because of the performance. Do they anticipate you going dukes of hazard on them and jumping over a river ? No that's abuse. But they have to expect small stuff like WOT acceleration, getting a little sideways etc. Avis knew full well what they were doing when renting this, that's why they charge more. Guys want to try this thing out, avis provides a service and charges more for the SS.

Funny thing about all this is that the OP is a trolling Mustang owner who created a story that you all bought. Why would someone admit to being stupid, with his first posts on the board, supposedly some 2000 miles from home??

How many donuts have you ever done? And I don't mean around once. In order to cause the problem with the power steering he had to be serverly abusing the car. I've been rough on a lot of cars in my time. (All my cars not someone elses). And I've broken more parts doing donuts than just about anything else. Their's a big difference between wot acceleration and doing donuts. I do agree gm does have problems with transmissions and rear axles shafts ,but this is something different.

I did this before you may have broken the shaft the holds the pulley to the pump the pulley and belts will still be connected. When the pulley turns it does engage anything else. See if the pulley will slide in and out but watch out it might come off if you pull it to for out (past the break in the shaft)
