Perhaps you should re-read the thread again. The guy who gave us an explanation was a technician at this shop, someone who works on high performance cars for a living. He was "assisting" us with the photo shoot.

I remember being one of the early C6 Corvette owners in 2005. The first time someone reported their roof flying off at highway speeds, several people told that guy to quit bitching, and that it was an isolated case. Some even laughed and said he must have done something to damage his car. Now, 100s of flying roofs later, it isn't so funny or isolated. Just keep that in mind. I guarantee the C6 Corvette also had plenty of wind tunnel and high-speed tests prior to a roof flying off. Not all problems are solved on the engineering side of things. It is important to understand that this destructive failure is POSSIBLE, it is not a guarantee it will happen. We shall see if others find the problem in time.

Did that track it supposedly did 155 on have a head wind or a cross wind? What if this cracked car went 155 mph into a 20 mph head wind? That means 175 mph...

Are you sure that wasn't because people were forgetting to latch their targa top?

Very good that this issue has been brought to GM's attention. It may be an isolated incident, but feedback on cars is the only way they are gonna make them better in the future. This is a very good thread!! Thanks to the OP!!!

I agree.

If some fat guy sat on the hood, there would be jelly droppings from one of his six jelly donuts.

I think it's an isolated incident.

I'll keep it to only 150 mph and have no worries.

I'm sure. The issue was the outer shell of the roof coming loose from the lower half, due to poor glue quality. The roof shell would delaminate, and the roof would fly off. Nothing to do with latches. That is a 4th gen T-Top issue, lol.

Again, surely the Z06 had some ultra-high speed tests (they do 198 mph stock) and had tons of wind tunnel development. But, 100s have lost roofs by now. Are you guys that confident that this case is isolated? Just keep it in mind if you plan on going triple digits. Give us some time to figure out what the issue is, and how to resolve it.

Maybe GM squeezed the facias supplier for a cheaper price and in return they got a "lower than spec" facias now in this production run.

WOW!!!!! OMG!!!!!! This is BAD!!! I mean REALLY bad!!!!!!

I have never heard of early production car having issues. This is just insane!

I feel for you guys I really do. I went thru this with the mid 80's stangs and the floor pan cracks and then the 97 F 150 and the door cracks and the 01 Z 06 and the oil burn and column lock issues...it SUCKS!!!

It is going to make your ownership experience a living hell!

So since I have been thru the horror before I am immune to a lot of the frustration, the sheer agony of having defects in a new production car. I am willing to do this for some lucky person out there.

I am willing to purchase your ordered IOM 1SS manual with black stripes at GM employee pricing any where in the country.

Thats right. Get your self out of this mess by letting me buy your car! Then you can wait and watch as I and many others like me suffer through the hell that is new model vehicle ownership. Then when the bugs are worked out you can buy knowing that your ownership experience will be a happy and stress free one. Where as I will probably be dead of cardiac arrest from all the stress.

PM me now to take advantage of this great deal!

LOL @ z06invb. I feel the same way. I'm a sucker for "firsts".

1996 Mustang GT (first 4.6L mod-motor)
1998 Formula (first LS1 f-body)
2005 Mustang GT (first new gen Mustang)
2005 Corvette (first C6)
2006 Viper (first SRT-10 coupe)
2008 Escalade (first new gen Escalade)
2009 Cadillac CTS (first new gen CTS)

I guess I'm used to discovering new "issues". It doesn't bother me, I still enjoy the ownership.
