I like the idea. It's kinda like my CVO Harley if you don't have a VIN and it's not in ur name you don't get parts. I like the idea because you pay a premium for certain parts and I don't think it's right for someone to take a shortcut and end up with something similar. The bike is a 2012 and still has 90% of its resale value! Wish it was like that for our ZL-1's because I see a lot of wannabe's running around with the front ends or hoods on their cars and I just shake my head.

I had to order a stripe and an emblem when I bought my wife's roush mustang a couple months ago. One had a very small mark on it. When I phone them to order they informed me I had to take pictures of and email vin, registration, roush ID tag and damage to order parts!!!

The parts should be restricted. I have been thru the "clone" stage, it was okay but in my heart I was still aware of the fact it wasn't a real "issued" car. It's nice to own the real thing now.

That being said,GM does not seem to care I guess because they are in the business of selling parts and that helps their bottom line.
I'm glad this isn't 1987. I'm sure GM has a better plan for restriction and I'm sure it'll last. Looking forward to the restriction. Good move on GM's part.

Who told you that? Your stating it as a fact as to the reason. But what is your source? Pure speculation.

I'm not buying it. GM doesn't give two rats butts if you clone a car or not. They haven't cared in like, forever. Now, if you said because the parts are needed for production and supply parts for warranty until they get to some level of saturation of repair part inventory, then I'd buy off on that. Similar to the way they did on the ZL1. The ZL1 is the best looking Gen5 front end ever, IMO. They should have put that on all of them.

Unless the contract for those parts are extremely limited to begin with, the parts will flow forth at some point. Wait and see.

Customizing your car the way you want is ok with me, using GM or aftermarket parts. Posing is not, however (example: saying or labeling it's a Z/28 when it's not).

I wish Chevy would've done this for the ZL. I hate cloning, but on the other hand buying high quality camaro parts and improving one's car generated a lot of enthusiasm for camaro owners. It was a nice way for a camaro owner to have fun with his or her car.

But IMO, Chevy needed to do this in order to protect the identity and image of the z/28. I would've liked some of that attention focused more with the ZLs. Ehh...live and learn.

people who care about cloned cars IMO have to much time on thier hands. talk about #firstworldproblems

people who are anti clone should buy cars that don't ahve V6 and normal production models like GTR's, vipers, etc.

when I was young I was poor as f__K. workig two jobs pumping gas after my first job I had a 69 Z28 camaro clone. I could give too craps less if people didn't like it ha ha. it was a 6cyl car that I put a 350 and an M21 in. It ran 13.5's and I laid waste to many snobby snooty guys that looked down on me. I always told myself I would never be that entiled douchebag.

then again I am not a status kind of guy. give me 7 disease free women, a tony montana sized pile of blow, and a cloned z28 I will still be happy as a clam.

I am flattered that someone thinks my car is so cool, they want theirs to look like it. It is a hobby and I do not want to be an elitist. I am thrilled I have the good fortune to own a ZL1 and I get to know other people int eh hobby. If they want to bolt on parts to make their car look like mine, more power to them.
