Unless I'm mistaken, the Grand sport is pretty much a Z06 but with a base model engine. And the 1LE is somilar to a ZL1 with an SS engine. BUT, I understand that I'm in the minority. I just think if it were were called something cool then it would be reffered to as that by everyone when talking about it and commonly known as such. |

The way I've read the statements from GM is that 1LE is a Track Pack for SS. It is not it's own model, like SS or ZL1. It is more like a 5.0 GT with a Track Pack than a Boss GT.
I think it's kinda' cool a Track Pack will have it's own appearance changes (if I'm correct). I like the hood and wheel changes. I'm wondering if the half-shafts are from ZL1. I'm wondering if the stab' bars are ZL1, too. I guess the shocks are upgrades above the SS FE4s, but the springs also interest me; ZL1 runs SS springs, according to reviews I've read (I don't know how reliable those are - I'd like to compare part numbers). The way GM puts it: 1LE is like it was in the last generation - an option for that package; SS, in this case. It is not a new model, like SS was to Z28 from the 4th Generation. If I'm wrong - I blame Randy.

I think you are right. But to me it would have been better to name it. 'Sportster', 'Spider', Boogy Man' or something. (Those first two names are examples and I know they have been used) I just think it would be catchy to car people. Like IROC was an appearance package. IROC ended up to be quite popular. |

Might be saving the names IROC and Z28 for some future undisclosed projects. But I agree they could of had a more catchy name for this car
then the 1LE I dunno "SSEX" hmm that may not work either .

Well, if I remember and from what I have been told an IROC was nothing more than an appearance package. Yet it has an iconic reputation. I've even heard people talk about it must be fast because it was an IROC. Even as a package for an SS a 1LE could have had a similar thing happen. But 1LE I doubt ever will. Not like 'Grand Sport' or IROC. |

I think 1LE is appropriate given what the package is - even if not entirely true to the original (neither is ZL1).

http://www.prophetsofmadness.com/iro...rthofirocz.htm I still think 1LE should have a name. 1LE just won't catch on to anyone not an enthusiast. I know all kinds of stuff about other models of cars because of memorable tags. It's the numbers that I forget quickly. |

1LE sounds like 1LT. Its all in a name. Should have been the z28 since it is more than an appearance package. GM can't afford to save anything. ZL1 works because it sounds like ZR1 and Z71, and all are iconic Chevy monikers.

I think the 1LE package makes the Camaro SS look a little bit more like the ZL1...which is...I guess, what it is! |

In my VERY humble opinion...the 1LE is the Camaro equivalent of the Corvette Grand Sport. In that case - they took Z06 handling and applied it to the base Corvette to replace the not-so-flashy Z51 package. Body panels and all...it kept the car fresh, and pleased fans by giving them a taste of the halo-car Z06 in a much more affordable package. This is such a parallel, in my eyes, it may as well have been the same business case paperwork to cross Mark Reuss's desk. Give enthusiasts the option for much better handling and a distinct appearance, both hallmarks of the ZL1, in a more affordable bundle. If this is a fear about cannibalizing ZL1's image...I wouldn't worry - the Z still maintains a dominating appearance, as I see it in the Camaro lineup...I would think even non-enthusiasts could tell the two apart if put next to each other. Besides...compare this "borrowing" of the ZL1's look to what a certain competitor just did to their entire lineup.... |
