Wow. After reading this entire thread, I've been experiencing the same problem as well (the grinding sound and feedback in the brake pedal while in reverse). I've taken mine to the dealer a few times now, and here's what has happened:

Visit 1:
Could not recreate the problem as I described, returned the car back to me like I was making stuff up. Out of a car for a couple of hours.

Visit 2:
Could not recreate the problem, however they changed the strut mounts (found debris). Out of a car for 48 hours.
result: still grinds when in reverse

Visit 3:
Drove w/ the Sr. Technician in my car, and recreated the problem. He recommended that they change differential fluid (found metal shavings...). Out of a car for 48 hours.
result: still grinds when in reverse

I will be making my 4th trip to the dealership regarding this matter (as they have ordered a brand new exhaust system since my baffles have come loose in my mufflers and are rattling around) and I'll tell them about this ABS issue I've been reading about.

My dealership and service people are really working hard to help me out here in Austin. I don't have any complaints with them. However, I'm getting frustrated that I paid close to $40,000 for a sports car that has been to the shop 6x now for various problems. I'm sorry to rant, but it's getting annoying now that all my friends are like "how's that government motors car treating you... HAHAH.... must be nice to drive around a cobalt when you paid for a 40k sports car." And to tell you the truth, they're right. Hopefully after this fix, if it works, that'll be the last one.

it's not the rear differential, it's the ABS update or recalibration something they do to the ABC computer. They did this to mine and I've never heard the grinding ever again. Read my posts earlier in this thread.

My wife's CTS did that when she broke the front axle.

This "grinding" sound that we've all experienced, is this causing any damage to any braking components? I'd surely hate for my warranty to expire and then something breaks due to excessive wear during the 13,000 miles of me destroying something.

The grinding noise when backing up, turning and braking with the help of several of you, seems to have been cured by my dealer. (still skeptical) They checked for ebcm updates and found one for unwanted noise while backing, turning and braking. They programmed the ebcm (code 282B4) I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you.

Got the steering noise back when turning wheel in slow or completely standing still. The fix to clean end-links worked great for most of the summer but as the weather got cooler the grind is back.
Going to insert spacer washer between the connective gap on the end-links next to see if that stops the capture of grit in the small crevace.
I've got the thump underneath the vehicle too when backing up this is really rare though, and I believe is resolved with the ECU ABS software update.
As for the diff chatter, well, my new gears most likely will either take care of that or sound better. Most likely I'll be more concerned about the front end lifting off the road when I press the accellerator. LOL

I have the same gridding noise when turns. The fix is really easy. Park your car at level ground and put in a little Transmission Fluid. Recheck the fluid stick to make sure the level is at Max. That will fix the issue. Seems like at the manufature, only minimum fluid were added, you have to add more fluid to hit the max level to stop the gridding noise.

I don't have the gridding noise anymore after the simple fix.

This may be what is happening to me...recently it started grinding and I've noticed a slow oil leak in the spot where I always park. Perhaps transmission fluid is leaking? Going to dealer tomorrow to check it out.

Warning, bringing up a dead thread...

Did anyone ever get a resolution on this? My car still does this about 1 out of every 20 times I back out of the driveway.

Is it in fact the ABS? IS there a TSB #?

My car was fine for a while and then after a year it started happening again. I took it back to the dealer and they changed the differential fluid again and put in the additive. They don't seem to think it's a big deal and act like they'll continue to do it if necessary and that if it turns out there's ever a big problem with the diff they'll cover it since it started under the warrantee coverage time.

It is probably the rear differential fluid. As another post stated, I had the fluid changed and additive done. It worked for several months but is now grinding/chattering again.

Here's the TSB. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/attach...3&d=1277904626

Hi CamaroYork, not sure what I can say as far as a diagnosis but I know you should be able to take your vehicle in for this kind of issue and have your dealer address it unless you're looking to take care of it yourself. You may be able to calm them and let them know what kind of issues you're having and see what they say they would do to resolve it if that's what you would be looking for. I hope this helps.

I've had my car in twice now for this...and both times they replaced the fluid. My car started doing this again this week. I only have 5100 miles on it, and probably have less than 1000 miles since the last time they did the flush. While it is extremely annoying (I can feel the rumble in the seat), I'm really more concerned about future failure.
