...nope.

I was a good boy.....

So I was pulled over for not having a FRONT PLATE!

The sheriff appeared to have quickly finished up with a previous violator in order to catch me amidst rush-hour...maybe he just needed a reason to see the car?

But the worst part about it all is that I had just two hours before been commenting to a friend how I see so many "plateless" vehicles around here that NY doesn't seem to enforce this law very much....
I get tickets all the time for various equipment issues. I don't care. People buy tickets all the time for all types of entertainment. What does a season ticket cost for an NFL ticket? NBA? Baseball? Opera? Concerts? Plays? My equipment violations are the biggest bargain available by contrast. I was stopped by an officer here in Texas because I don't have a front plate on my Denali. He asked me where it was. I said right here under my seat and showed him my plate. Why isn't it mounted? Because it looks X#%*ing awful. I am a car guy imported to Texas from Detroit. I bought my cowboy boots, hat and engraved shotgun since I moved but it will be a cold day in hell when you see my car with a front plate. I hope that doesn't offend you sir.

So if I write you a ticket today, tomorrow and every time I see you will you install your front plate? I am a man of my word so the answer would be no.

Your Denali was registered in Texas six months ago and you still have a Michigan driver's license. That is a violation of Texas law. It would be if I didn't still have a home in Michigan and some cars registered in Michigan. I plan to keep those for an extended period of time because in Michigan they don't have front plates or vehicle inspections

We talked for quite some time. He wrote me a ticket. I paid it. I see him regularly on the road. I wave at him respectfully. He waves back. He has not stopped me since.

So long story short. You can choose to deface your ZL1 and conform to the letter of the law or choose civil disobedience and protest the front plate law.

FWIW, I've never written a ticket for no front plate.....and....well....you've seen the front end of my Camaro, Pete.

Nice story, btw.

OK...my guess that Dragoneye hasn't been on his own thread in a while is that he's still working out how to mount a license plate on to his car without drilling any holes and it's temporary and it doesn't look like chit and it's not going to have a negative impact on aerodynamics and....and....and....dammit, can't remember that other thing.....

That pile of stuff just looks wrong. It must be drug related...

Would the Jacfab front plate bracket work on your car? That's what I'm using. It uses the 2 bolts under the facia. It takes less than 5 mins to take it off or put it on and leaves no marks on the car.

There's an idea. Though Joe would have to read his own build thread to find this out.

No, it won't. :(

The front splitter goes back to cover everything on the underneath of the front end. The only screws accessible aren't fit to hold a plate, let alone in 65+ mph wind speeds.

And yeah --- I'm still working on this....the first three ideas failed miserably...so I just put the plate on a rag and into the window for now and enjoyed the car.

Work, Life, etc has been SOO busy....I felt a strange combination of withdrawal and schoolboy excitement while I took a couple of "for fun" drives in the Z, instead of chatting on the site.....

Here's a couple of neat pictures I've managed since I've last been on....(keeping the camera handy in the center console seems to be a good idea...)

Yes, great pics Dragoneye! I'm sure everyone here on the forum are not surprised you 'disappeared' for a few days. I would consider that normal...I had a feeling it would have been longer but alas you haven't forgotten your faithful following and returned with some very cool pics.

Too bad about the License plate thing, what about contacting the company JacFab and seeing if they can modify one for the ZL1?
