I was at a local car show today and some guy brought his C7 Z06 with the Z07 Stage 3 aero. The tires were bald, his front splitter was mangled and the paint was swirled like crazy. I can't imagine treating a car like that.

The 2.7 seconds are probably in the tires and brakes that the Z/28 has.

I was going through some old documents I have, and came across this. Thought I'd share it. What's astonishing to me is what you can do from Chevy/Camaro performance parts alone, all of it legitimate components of an existing Camaro. It's exactly the Camaro I always wanted to have. NA, "light", track-monster. And with the exception of cost, they make going fast easy!
If you pay full MSRP for all the parts I believe it adds up to around $13K. If I had money to throw away like some of the extreme mods done on this site, it's definitely the direction I would go.

The "Ultimate Track SS" by Chevy performance parts:

Leveraging key components of the Camaro Z/28 – recipient of Motor Trend’s 2014 Best Driver’s Car award – the Ultimate Track Camaro SS concepts demonstrated the ultimate in track capability for SS models.

Along with the additional power supplied by its enhanced LS3 6.2L engine – featuring a camshaft kit and CNC-ported cylinder heads available from Chevrolet Performance – the Ultimate Track Camaro SS was 2.9 seconds faster than the Ultimate Street Camaro SS, and 8.7 seconds faster than the stock Camaro SS. Well that includes cai, air scoop mods.

“With the Z/28 parts, the Camaro SS is transformed into an entirely track-focused machine,” said Mark Dickens. “The steering is responsive and precise, allowing you to carve down to the apex with ease – and it confidently gets the power to the ground while exiting turns. Perhaps even more amazing is that the on-track transformation is accessible with parts that literally bolt on to any 2010-and-newer Camaro SS.”

http://media.chevrolet.com/media/us/...-mt-event.html

Parts Include:
  • LS3 Power Upgrade Kit (heads cam, Chevy calibration: +40hp, 7100rpm redline)
  • Z/28 suspension kit with DSSV® Dampers
  • 1LE strut tower brace
  • Z/28 helical differential
  • Z/28 differential cooler
  • Z/28 aero components kit
  • Z/28 brake ducts kit
  • Z/28 rear spoiler wicker bill
  • Z/28 air intake
  • Z/28 cat-back exhaust system
  • Z/28 exhaust adapters
  • ZL1 wheel hubs
  • ZL1 front brake kit
  • 1LE tires: Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 – P285/35ZR20
  • 1LE wheels: 20 x 10-inch front and 20 x 11-inch rear
  • 1LE PCV system
  • Chevrolet Performance short-throw shifter

Milford Road Course Best Lap Times:
Camaro Z/28 -------- 1:53.71
Ultimate Track SS --- 1:56.43
Camaro ZL1 --------- 1:56.58
Camaro 1LE --------- 1:58.85
Boss 302 LS --------- 1:59:05
Mustang GT500 ----- 1:59.97
So adding the LS3 power upgrade would have GM "recalibrate" the ecm for a 7100 rpm redline and an additional 40 hp, which hopefully would not void the powertrain warranty? I would do this in a heartbeat. Add some shorty headers and should be close to 470 rwhp. That would include CAI and air scoop mod.

Just the Z/28 CAI voids your warranty so I'm sure the head and cams would. Bad part about the shorty headers is that they won't fit the stock exhaust. You have to buy the Z/28 exhaust. Some money can be saved by going aftermarket with the exhaust and buying the CTSV brakes. I would love to have an LS3 that spins to 7K but I'm just not willing to spend that kind of cash. As much as I love my car I would rather take a hit and get a sixth gen. Pretty happy with my 1LE as is though, just want to pay it off.

I could be wrong on this, but in the past, some GMPP engine mods were approved to continue the factory warranty. The turbo upgrades on the Colbalt and HHR SS's did not alter the factory warranty.

Perhaps the name changing guy could verify this?

Last I heard, if you tuned the car with the LS3 Upgrade Kit, it does void the warranty.

Name-changing guy doesn't know anything about that...nor does he care.

I'm still googly-eyed at the prospect of a 7100 rpm redline out of an LS3 from a GM-engineer-produced tune....

I have some funds-shuffling to do.....

I would do the LS3 kit if I can sneak it by smog. Have the stock intake ported to match the heads, some shorty headers and a custom tune should do nicely. Maybe even have the stock throttle body cleaned up.

I know for sure it's emissions-legal.

The LS3 head and cam package does not have the little "Does Not Void Warranty" symbol that most of the mods on that page have.
