First Oil Change Filter Check HI REZ!
Today, I cut open the PF48E filter after the first oil change -- just validating what I expected -- some metal, etc for an initial setup up. Looked typical and no big parts ;o)
Here is the cutter I used: ![]() Filter element: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When I cut the filter open, you could see the 'silver streak' that comes out after an initial break in of an engine. When I drained the engine oil, I did not have a 'magnetic' plug, but, didn't see any big material. I'll add one the next time -- did order the Blackstone kit to test it from here on in. -Don

TNiA MotorSport Ranch Cresson Texas
Here are a few pics from tonight's session -- really was fun:
Pavilion where we all parked (early bird wins here ;o): ![]() Just some of the cars that raced today: ![]() New ZL1: ![]() My last session of the day (10 minutes!) as the heat finally got me (over 100° today! Learning a new track and the updates to the car at the same time): So, everything held up -- except the trans temps got up there -- let it cool down, last session, she did much better on the trans temps. Will need to add more cooler for it (Mishimoto oil cooler REALLY worked well though!). DriversEdge has 3 more events and SCCA of Texas has a PDX that has an instructor with you and its a 'timed' event! Now that sounds like fun! -Don

Now that the engine build and track day are behind me, I'll focus on the WickerBill and 6th Gen brake air deflectors. Debating on if I should just leave the track splash shield on or make a way to easily r&r them -- will need to look and see. Really don't want to pull the caliper each time. I did get upgraded caliper bolts so I wouldn't need to use the TTY. Got these instead:
Fronts: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CTS-V-Camaro....c100102.m2452 Rears: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CTS-V-Camaro....c100005.m1851 I purchases speed bleeders so may put those on the calipers (front and rear) and do a flush again with the Castrol SRF. Trans fluid will be changed also this weekend (love the Jannetty dip stick!), since I had a few track sessions with it -- still perfect and no burnt smell -- that's good ;o). I change it around 10K miles to be safe. Will also do a check over of things since the engine was removed -- never hurts to do the 'death check' again after a track session ;o) -Don

Yep! That happened A LOT yesterday -- and not just the novice class -- that particular driver (novice as in 0 experience) did it 4 times throughout the day. I have the other videos where other's went off the track -- amazed no car damage. The really crazy thing was NO WAVING YELLOW (caution -- off track incident) from the flag man - I looked @ the flag man -- his arms were crossed -- I guess he figured we knew who it was as well as how 'far' he was off the track -- I saw the dust cloud ;o)
One Advanced driver lost an engine and sprayed oil all over the place - they did the dry-all -- that was fun for the advanced group until that was finally removed. All in all, very fun. I made sure I had 'space' to run to avoid some of those folks -- the total novices didn't get the concept of 'point bys' and had a 'train' behind them. They also didn't 'remember' you don't do a 'point by' in a turn -- talk about SLOW moving during those times... Some of these events really need instructors for the novice class -- a short coming for this particular event. Their PDX event, however has one instructor per driver -- and that is the way it should be. Best Novice event was the one NCM put on -- it was very well done... -Don

It sure did, by that time, most expected it :o). Still, considering it all, was pretty successful. $150 for 120 minutes of track time... not bad at all. 10 miles away from the track, E85 was available! VP race gas was on site so that was good for the others. I took 2-5 gallon VP race cans of E85 with me, so I was good!

Jokerz Booster Valve Upgrade
Finally had time to put on the Jokerz Booster Valve -- this really went on with no problem.
Using the alignment tool I purchased from Lingenfelter: ![]() http://www.lingenfelter.com/product/ETN86063.html I was able to align and set the depth as per service manual. Fit perfect and adjusted the 'step' on the valve to just make contact and 1/4 turn: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Plenty of room and clearance! -Don

Today, changed out the transmission fluid (10K miles and track days, so it was due) and the power steering fluid.
Trans fluid was fine color wise and no burning smell. The power steering fluid was in need of change -- after a year: ![]() This is Driven PS fluid -- which is normally clear -- I changed it last year when I did the second PS cooler. So, looks like every year -- would be a good thing to change out. Do some other updates (mostly 'Death Check' of bolts and nuts) to validate things are still good (after engine install and track). I have a few more suspension bolts to check. My camber plates became loose, so I adjusted them -- will need an alignment -- so that will be next week. So, later today, the ZL1 Addons WickerBill! -Don

ZL1 Addons Wicker Bill!
Wicker Bill is on!
If you 'measure twice, cut once' its a very easy job -- I took my time, had it done in under an hour. Unboxing: ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is the riv-nut tool and how its setup: The 'bit' that goes into the riv-nut gun is left hand threaded so keep that in mind: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Riv-Nut on the 'gun': ![]() ![]() Here, I measured twice then, drilled a 1/8" pilot hole on just the 2 center marks: ![]() Opened them up (25/64 bit or 9MM) then just size them enough to fit the riv-nut: ![]() First two are on! ![]() Now install the wicker bill (just on the 2 riv-nuts) and then mark and then drill the 'Pilot' holes first. Remove the wicker bill, then drill out the rest of the holes to size. Once that is done, work from inside to outside installing the riv-nuts -- this tool makes it very easy to install them! ![]() ![]() Check to make sure none of the riv-nuts move -- if they do, tighten them down just a little bit more using the riv-nut gun -- you'll feel it. After all of the riv-nuts are installed, remove the protective cover off the lower wicker bill, and install that side facing the rear of the car. You'll install the left 2 outer and right 2 outer bolts/hold-downs - just loosely snug. Then install the 'clear' bill over-lapping the lower wicker bill -- then install the bolts and after that, tighten from inside to out equally (1 right 1 left -- back and forth) to ensure the wicker bill will 'equal out to the ends'. Tight up and you're good to go! Mine took a torx 30 bit to install them. Follow the directions (it says how 'high' up it should be - about 1/4" above the deck lid). Here it is in all its glory: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Excellent product! Here is a video of one of the Camaro5 family (Antares) getting his installed by John -- a side note: my friend 'Eric' (the white dude ;o) was enjoying some 'trash talking' at the same time: Loving it! -Don
