Let's compare a few cars....
What I have now 2004 Monte Carlo... weight-3340 LBS 3.4L V6 w/180hp@5200rpm 2.86 axle ratio 1978 Camaro Z28 when it was stock... weight-3616 LBS 5.7L V8 w/180hp@4000rpm 3.42 axle ratio what others claim to be a "real Camaro" since it has a V8 2002 Camaro Z28... weight-3430 LBS 5.7L V8 w/310hp@5200rpm 2.73 axle ratio and the Unreal Camaro I have on order 2010 Camaro LT... weight-3741 LBS 3.6L V6 w/304hp@6400rpm 3.27 axle ratio If you ask me from what I have gathered here in my comparison the 2010 Camaro LT or LS with a 3.6L V6 would blow my Monte Carlo away and beat my '78 Z28 V8 when it was stock because it only weights 125 LBS more but has more HP and close to the same rear gears and it would hang with the 2002 Z28 V8 if it was stock. The 2010 may weight 311 LBS more but the HP is close and the 2010 has a lower geared rear end to make up the difference. So you tell me what makes a Camaro "REAL"?????????

Yes, I always notice the engine first when I see one on the road. Its definitely not the looks that catch my eye.

The V6 is a good car...but it's not a V8. Just be happy with your V6, but if you get in a "Why don't you have a V8?" battle with someone there's no winning. They've made up their minds for the most part that the V6 isn't good enough and you'll likely just get angry trying to convince them otherwise. |

I'm not angry with anybody or doubting my choice. I am fine with getting a V6 and couldn't give a rat's ass what others think of my choice. I just find it amusing that a Camaro with a V8 back 7 years ago or later had the same power or less then the new V6 but yet some people are ignorant and say it's not a real Camaro if it doesn't have a V8.

People will always compare with current models, unless the car is worse than a past car. Some people will always expect a muscle car to be a V8 and that's it. Some people just say that to make themselves feel better for not having the car. It's just the way things are, don't let it bother you. |

They are all Camaro's right? Yes V8 will always be the bad ass but for some of us the V6 has what we need.

And the best part... 9 out 10 times the guy saying "You should have got a V8" walks away and gets in his rusted out, beat to death Toyota POS.... LOL!

7 years ago the LS1 was making far MORE than 304hp. You should do some reading up. Quote:

10hp = 100lbs (using rule of thumb... it's not exact just a way to simplify this) 311lbs (the difference you quoted) would mean there is a 30hp gap that needs to be made in order for the heavier car to run with the lighter one (assuming everything else is equal). Given that the 2002 Z28 actually makes 350+hp that means you would need to make 380+hp for your 311lb heavier car to run equal (once again assuming you had the same aerodynamics, gearing, etc). Is that making any sense? You need to go back about 12 years...to when the LT1 made about the same power. Even then you would have the weight difference to make up so I still don't see you running down a properly running LT1 stock to stock. Last edited by S8ER01Z; 07-09-2009 at 08:51 AM. |

V6 - It just isn't normal

If the V6 is clearly such a dog then why do you v8 guys spend so much time talking about it. Blah Blah blah.... Get over it. You could have had a V6.
