The bad news is as long as the fob is within range of the car, it'll start whether YOU are in the car or someone else is.
Not that long ago on TV they showed a group of guys that were test driving several cars, one of which was the Challenger.
When they stopped to get a bite to eat in a resturant, one of the other guys, got up, went outside, got in the Challenger and simply drove off in it with no key nor fob.
Since the person that did have the fob was inside but near th ecar, the car started.
The guy outside that started the car drove off with it, mentioning he thought that one the car was out of range of the fob, it would either quit running or just wouldn't start once it was turned off.
Either way, it makes for a scary situation. Someone else could drive off with the car, go around a corner and load it on a flatbed and take off.

I enjoy the keyless entry and push button start of my wife's Toyota Highlander Limited. I would like to have push button start on a new Camaro. Keys are keys everone has 20 of them hanging off a key ring and they probably don't know what 3/4 of those go to.

Add complexity = increase problems.

Hang around the Corvette forums and you'll find tons of passive entry/keyless start/dead battery/mysterious electrical problems....

I had a C5 Z06 - key start. Perfect car, never an issue.

Went to a C6 coupe, passive fob/ keyless start. Numerous problems, every time the dealer fixed something there was always other Corvettes there with similar problems.

IMHO, hopefully the Camaro never will have a push button start or passive entry fobs. Nothing but problems. If it does go to it, get use to the term "DBS". Dead Battery Syndrom.

Frankly...would it be nice to have? Sure....but I don't like the comparisons to the Fiesta or Scion....I don't believe either of those cars come standard with 312hp..........

You can't look at all these features as "cheap and simple" and should be standard on all vehicles because of that. That's wrong. Everything has a cost, and everything is a trade-off.

Push button start ?
Who cares ? they quit using them in about 1940 . They serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever . You have key in ignition, turn key, turn ever so slightly more, and like magic ,car starts. These cars will start even if you let go of the key prematurely . Does it get any easier or more practical than that ?

Too much automation in vehicles already. It's fun to actually DRIVE the car instead of having the computer do it for you. Anybody see I-Robot?? You'll be driving along one day and all of a sudden the dash will light up red as it downloads information from the mainframe and then......

I'm just sayin....

I just drove a 2008 Challenger SRT8 for the first time ever. We just took it in on trade.

It has push button start.

Meh...Not really that big of a deal to me.

My point was merely to show that such a mediocre car has a nice feature..it plays into convenience--I would love not to have to put a key into the ignition..just get in, hit the start, and go. Drove a cadillac with it last week- i liked it.
