challenger engine made in mexico, vehicle assembled in canada....sold as a great american icon.

yep. not sure if the 300 plant is in canada too or not, I would guess so, but not sure. Since I've never ever seen that "imported from detroit" on any challenger or charger commercials.

Once upon a time, it was actually made there, too.
I've got lots of old Apple/Mac stuff around that was made in USA.

As for the American/foreign argument... All of our "American" cars use parts made all over the place... Still, it's better (for us) to buy a USA product these days, despite lusting for those foreign girls. Maybe someday soon, our manufacturers will wake up and give us something to compete with a GTR... We can dream.

Are the Chevy ZR1, Dodge Viper, and Ford GT not on the same level performance wise?

To be honest, as great as the GT-R is, I'd take any of those before I'd choose the Nissan.
