i took SS for looks.. i could of bought a faster car.. just wanted RWD car that would fit wide tires.. I can always add power.. shit my old 4 cylinder was a 11sec car.. not that hard to make a car faster..
but everyone seems to be stuck on their brand and numbers magazines put out that are in their favor LoL

oportunities- LS is a better platform for mods. yes they will be a little more $.

Longevity- you have to purposely break an LS. 5.0..... time will tell.....
but all it is, is a truck engine with a different top half..... and ford trucks (with ford being my choice of truck, only truck i would buy with mymoney is a Raptor.) are not exactly the sturdiest of engines.
Wow if there wasn't a date on this post I'd swear it was made in early 2010. LS based engines are far from the better platform and it will simply come down to brand preference. Although no one will disagree that it is the cheaper platform to modify if were talking about engine swaps.

As for the truck engine talk would you please specify why if that was true that it would matter?

I don't really care about anything previous to the 80's. But from 82-92 it took a 350 in the Camaro to even come close to matching the 302 in a Mustang. Given the G92 305 was close in my opinion it was too little too late. As for 93-02 the GT was far from a competitor for the LS1 but that was about the only time a GM guy can claim a clear cut victory. And after owning 15 different F-Bodies and only 3 Mustangs I'm far from Ford biased.

Adding a "cold air" intake on a 5.0 gains you nothing.

I don't argue that the SS has been slightly faster, however, not for 44 years.

In the 70's, the fastest Mustang (Non-Boss 429) was the crappy Windsor 351 you mentioned which was a tick faster than the 1970 Z/28 HC Camaro.

Granted, the Mustangs never were built with a big motor or came with a lot of HP. I think Mustangs stepped it up when the 03/04 Cobra debuted and destroyed the entire Chevy line-up aside from a C5Z (Close race, but the Z was still faster) and the Mach 1, etc.

The 05-09 Model, including the 2010 model which were still current when the SS came out, you are talking a 120+ HP difference and a lot of cubes. However, I've seen plenty of 13.3-13.4 runs out of stock 3V cars, where as most SS's and the Auto's were bottom 13's and high 12's. I'd say despite the LARGE HP and Cube gap, the Mustang was hot on the Camaro's trail, but still fell short in the long run.

All in all, both are great cars. You cannot simply say the Camaro was outright faster every year considering the near 8 year gap they stopped making them and also the 70's were a different story. Now, you are talking about the Standard Mustang. If you compare the fastest with the Fastest, the 67' GT500 was faster than every single model year Camaro until the 4th gen debuted.
What about 68-70 428CJ, 71 429CJ, and 351Boss? These cars where a match with anything the competition had back then. Also I had a stock 83 5.0 Capri RS that ran 14.60's. All with 175hp.

The ws6 brought nothing more to the table then the SS of the time. Still wasn't a better car. Looks cool? It did 12 years ago, now they look very dated. They have not aged well.

Mustangs imo, age better than Camaros. Camaros start to look outdated very quickly.

i had a 01 ss and it was a monster on the streets theres wasnt any 99-04 or 05-10 that could come close mod for mod... Mustang should be proud to be able to take a camaro stock for stock now "in a straight line"..

People take those LS1 cars a little too lightly. They always impressed the crap out of me. A good running MACH 1 would give one a pretty good go.
