Everyone needs to understand that all manufactures have a protocol in place for these vehicles. Someone expects it. There is a plan in place. We all know who deserves the car. Sadly it isn't ending up there. Exceptions are not possible even in examples like this that should be made.

I have to say that was a great read and it actually caused me to tear up. It's rarely "just a car" and the Camaro is definitely not "just a car." The Camaro has given me so much joy and I love the feeling of freedom, fame and fortunate when I drive down the road.

Not Just a Car!

No Scott........It's not just a car. My reactions were much the same when I picked up "Hank" last weekend. This car stirs the soul like nothing I have ever encountered. And YES! GM did get it right and so much more. Oh and "Hank" comes from Hank McCoy of the Xmen. The Blue Beast

It's just a car.

No, it's not. It's history. It's style. It's elegance. It's brutal. It's subtle. It's rude, crude and loud. It's everything to a lot of people. It's nothing to some. It's a passion to most who have owned one.

It's a Camaro. It's a friend.

You hit it right on the head for me. When I bought my first Camaro back in 1984 it was a red '67 with a 327 under the hood. It was my first experience with freedom. I spent a LOT of time with that car. Put almost 200k miles on it before I sold it. The day I sold it I was sad and still to this day miss it. That was 18 years ago. I bought a '99 Camaro brand new in February '99. Traded it off four years later and felt that same twinge of regret as I handed over the keys.

Today I have a wife and daughter and a four door sedan. When the 2010 came out I looked at my wife and said, "I will have one."

I miss my friend.

I feel for you Scott that is a very touching story, pure passion thanks for sharing

Excellent story Scott. I can relate to many of the events you spoke of as all of us with new Camaros can. Maybe you will get a Z28 CTF when they build it. Thor version 2.0?

What say you fellow Camaro5 owners?
God Bless you - but no-- I cannot accept anything like that - and even if I could, I wouldn't......I'd rather each of you save your money to buy a 5th gen -- or, if you already have -- to buy some good 'stuff' for your 5th gen.

I am tracking Thor each day -- IF he goes to GM Auction, my cousin will be there to snatch him up -- and if the planets align, I will buy him -- and keep him.....and hand him down to my nephews.........

IF he does not go to Auction -- well -- I don't want to think about that.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts -- I am fine -- I am healthy -- and I'm the luckiest guy in the world, frankly...........

.............but Damn - I sure miss my buddy.

Got up this morning -- very cold crisp Autumn morning in Michigan - brilliant blue sky -- got Thor out of the garage -- and just felt terrible that this was the last time I'd take him for a spin.......

Dropped him off at the 11 Mile facility --- and as I drove away, I looked in the rear-view mirror -- and realized that I've never had a car move me the way Thor has -- and it also occurred to me how achingly handsome these cars really are........ (..yeah -- I'm prejudiced -- so sue me...)
.......was given a Captive Test Fleet SRX -- and the SRX has a lot of cool features (as well as one HUGE sunroof -- ) -- and I'd highly recommend it to someone looking for a Luxury Cross-over.......

BUT............completely different personality.

If the SRX could talk -- it would be something along the lines of

"....Good day, Sir -- may I bring you the latest Dow-Jones industrial average?....and perhaps later we can visit Brooks Brothers...."

.....whereas if Thor could talk it would be along the lines of:

".....Yeo -- Dude -- you and me -- let's hit the road -- and cause some ruckus...."

The SRX is perhaps a trusted advisor --

Thor was my best buddy that wants me to live life on the edge.........

Scott, I have to agree with many on here that it really seems fitting that you should buy Thor back. Now, I know money doesn't grow on trees and all that, but it just doesn't seem like he should belong to anyone else except you.

Having said that, you and most on here understand what it means to be dedicated to a car. Some might say obsessed. Some might say crazy. I would just say dedicated. We know what it is like to look out the window at work just to "check" on the car. Or bend down as the garage door is closing in order to get one more look.

I think I speak for many when I say how much we appreciate all you have given to the Camaro, GM and this site. Thor's work evangalizing for GM, Chevy and the Camaro is appreciated by many.

Some might say it is just a car. That's fine. But as I have said before this car is different. I can feel the heart and soul that went into it. I can feel it's lineage every time I ride in it. People never pulled up to me in my brand new Enclave and asked what was under the hood. This car IS different. Is it more than a car? I can't say, but it isn't the same as just any old car. It is a Camaro. And if people don't understand and just think it's a car, well then those people just don't understand.

Farewell Thor and good luck. May you ride many many miles. May the wind always be at your back and may the road always be open in front of you.

My wife's SRX is a bit too refined for my blood (damn fine car though) and yes,
it has a HUGE sunroof.

What is the norm for the CTF vehicles when they've completed their
'service'? Auction or 'that which we shall not mention'?

So sorry you had to turn him back in :(

It's the circle of life of the Pep program...CTF cars have an uncertain future...fingers crossed Thor will be ok!

Some cars you count the days down until it's time to turn it back in and others you could drive forever

Good luck reuniting with him!

Depends...may go to auction, may remain in fleet service...and sometimes they go...places we shouldn't speak of.
