The fact that they didn't call the ZL1-1LE a Z/28 when they very easily could have means they are still at least preserving the name.

However, I'm not really sure there is any room left over for a Z/28 in the lineup with this. A pure showroom stock race car like the COPOs is possible. Not sure how much market there would be for that though.

For a street Z/28, in order to go around a track better, it would need to go 1 step further than the already crazy ZL1-1LE on wheels/tires, brakes, and suspension as a bare minimum. And have 600 or so hp while being no more than about 3550 lbs. That is a very tall order. And if the ZL1-1LE is already going to be about 70k, adding all that is going to make for an 80k plus car. Thans an awful lot of money for a Camaro.

I guess they could go the opposite direction & offer something that isn't really seen: an autocross specialist. Use a high output turbo4 (low 300 hp range), give it the ZL1-1LEs handling bits and cut some more weight. Forget the extra cooling and aerodynamics. Price point of maybe 40k. Not sure I like the idea ... but its a thing that could exist & wouldn't really bump up against anything.

It sure seems that way!

Looks awesome, goes awesome.....three seconds faster around Milford Road Course could very easily mean a high 7:10s around the Nurburgring....and they just bolstered the 1LE reputation in a way I didn't think was possible.

No 6th gen Z/28 then. And while that looks like a freaking cool car, as a Z28 owner I'm kinda glad. I don't think we'll ever see a N/A 7.0L motor now, I think the Gen5 Z/28s will be the last of that breed!

I'm sure the didn't use Z/28 to avoid the whole C7 Z06 issue. It's pretty disappointing GM couldn't counter the GT350R and 5.2 Voodoo head on.

It is all perspective.

What can Ford come up with to compete with the ZL1 1LE?

There will be no Z/28 in the 6th Gen production run, but do we really care with the ZL1 1LE on the showroom floor... soon?

I'm sure they will come up with something. If GM couldn't answer the GT350R, does Ford have to answer the ZL1 1LE?

Take a GT350R, install the engine from the eventual GT500 & call it a GT500R. Should be pretty similar in capability to a ZL1LE

I'm still hopeful. Not sure why but I am.

Until 6th gen production ends, a 6th gen Z/28 (or Z28) is still possible. And if its possible, there is reason to hope.

They should take all the ZL1 1LE aero, suspension, wheels and tires, put them on a SS and call it a SS 1LE ZL1 1LE. haha

Or a 2LE and crush the GT350R.

I guess there is always a microscopic chance of a Z/28 coming along. Just need to convince GM that team Camaro is worthy of getting an engine for it.

What is it the 350R has or does the Z1LE doesn't?

I guess I am not understanding what you are saying. The new Z1LE is a monster Camaro, the fastest road course Camaro ever. What could a 6th GEN Z/28 possibly do better?
