... I have math up to and including Differential Equations and Calculus Based Combinatorics, not to mention Algorithm Design and Analysis and Abstract Linear Algebra.

Pissing contest over... Now, back on topic.

I am happy the Camaro will have a key. It is just a tactile thing with me. I also like that it is one of those little switch blade keys

The actual radio receiver hardware is just a featureless silver box buried inside the dashboard. The ICS is the actual control panel on the outside and communicates with the radio over the vehicle's data bus. The center stack panel includes the climate controls and any other controls GM wants to integrate into the center stack.

In other words, it's going to be nearly impossible to upgrade.
If they build enough cars that way someone is sure to build a "silver box" with better sound and/or more features.

the "silver box" you guys are describing sounds a lot to me like a "carputer". (car computer...like your home computer but in a car for those of you that don't get the terminology)

lots of people are doing things like this - putting 7" touchscreens in their car and hiding an actual computer inside their dash cobbled together from parts bought at the computer store and power supplies obtained on mp3car.com (sorry for the plug) and having their radio / everything else controllable via the computer.

INCLUDING a few plug-ins that ive seen to control HVAC using the same comptuer. (with a few wiring changes and a USB/Serial connector)

just so you all know...if gm did this it could launch a new industry in the computer world lol...

-- edit --

i know a guy that put this kinda setup in his ion redline. he could control all his stuff, from radio to cd/dvd player - volume control, GPS - wireless internet built in...he even had the HVAC controls and software that would show him his guage readouts (Coolant temp, speed, tach, mileage, trip, fuel econ, etc) on the 7" touchscreen he put in. created a custom fiberglass bezel for it even. looked slick. cant wait for him to help me put my carputer in

That is pretty cool! If they did that it would be awesome if the gave the "carputer" bluetooth capabilities so that you could link your PDA/smartphone to it and have thing like email and schedules right at your fingertips. That way, you could have schedules and email alerts come through your car speakers and things like that. Just an idea Could go even one step further and have tethering capabilities with your smartphone and "carputer" and be able to have wi-fi in your car...Hahaha, one more idea! They could, if they make tethering and wi-fi capable with your "carputer," make it so you can purchase performance tuning (like Hypertech) online...and then just download them directly to your car!!!
