You should do your chores because as a member of a family, you have responsibility. I don't expect my kids to pay me for the meals I provide them, so why should they expect me to pay them for the chores they do? Giving payment for chores sends the wrong message, and I would speculate is the reason for the sense of entitlement and diminishing interest in higher education in young people today.

I am saying this by the way from experience. I grew up with an incredible sense of entitlement, and I only really got my act together in my 30s. Heck - that's a long time. I would hope for your children and mine that they will learn that lesson sooner.
i agree that you shouldnt get money for chores or grades but i still consider school work. i dont even want to think about kids im 15 years old. lol

i think you should ask family members and friends not people on the internet. some people in here have logical replies while others get jealous and resort to calling people bad parents for buying their kid a car.

I'm going to have to pull in my comment from the thread about "should parents but their kids first car". I'm going to say no on the Camaro as his first car. Get him a handy little used car for now, then get the Camaro a few years down the road.

In my opinion, it's about school and work, for those who say it is solely about work, it's almost as if you're throwing your school aside. Just because it is school doesn't mean that you can't achieve and go over what is expected and work certainly doesn't solely shape your maturity.

I think people are more concern about safety for their kid than should or shouldn't buy a Camaro for their kid. Havanaalex I haven't no idea what Xletha 360 talking about either. BTW you're a lucky SOB to be a sixteen years old teen drivine an SSRS. But hey its the parent decision, they know their kid better than other people.

In my honest opinion, I would hold off on getting your son a new Camaro, at least for a few years. I remember when I was 16, I drove an 1993 Toyota Camry with around 150k miles on it. In fact, I'm still driving the same car at age 20.

After working for the past 2 years while going to college, I've finally just saved up enough for a decent down payment on a new 2010 Camaro. My parents are actually going to help me out with the car payments and such as a reward for going to school and being successful.

I guess what I want to say is, let your son establish a pretty good sense of driving responsibility with a used car first. And later down the road, maybe he could even help to pay a little bit for the car itself. And I always believe you appreciate something much more when you pay for it yourself, as opposed to having it handed to you.

It's so hard to know, though, how he is going to act when such a powerful machine is put into his hands. Even knowing him the way I do, and he's a good kid, boys like to push limits. It's quite a dilemma since I said he could get one, and after that test drive (driven by the chevy salesman), my stomach is still on the road behind us. I want to be a parent of my word, ya know? I should've done my homework well in advance.
One last comment and I'll leave this thread shaking my head - parenthood is NOT a democracy, it's a dictatorship. You had a change of heart (in his best interest) and he'll be getting another car. End of discussion. At least he'll be alive to argue with you.

Buy him the car. My first car was an RX-7 Turbo. I drove like a bat out of hell. Your son probably will too. If you are really worried install one these:

Couldn't have said it better myself, after raising 5 kids. By the way I took my youngest today to get his license. He's getting to drive a 1996 Toyota Tercel.

I had a 99 SS LT1 when i turned 16. But i was a responsible kid.. only thing i ever did wrong was cost my dad a shizload on rear tires.. kids love to see them smoke... my dad was the same way though with his 70 Boss 302.. he smoked 10-20 pairs or redlines on that thing when he was 16.. guess its all in how you're raised.. Never been a street racer. Have him write or email his favorite racecar driver and ask them if they think street racing is cool? You fight in a ring, race on a track, shoot on a range, and have a little bit of pride... :-/

If he's worth it. . . let him have the LS.. he will have much more pride in that car and not be willing to screw it up and lose it.. if its a 95 honda prelude.. beware of street racing..

My parents got me a new camaro v6 and my dad thought it would be too much power but before the camaro I drove his old corvette so by the time I got the camaro I was used to higher horsepower cars.
