This thread is full of loss. Especially the idiot who thinks 8/10's in the quarter is a small margin. The SS barly edges out a GT
The mustang has to meet 2012 crash standards, watch the weight increase.

This is what makes this segment so great. You knew Ford had to respond with something and now they have.

Next will be can Chrysler/Fiat respond..............and what will GM do next

Now the fun begins. And mind you this is all in a world of CAFE and emissions regulations.

One would almost think it was the 60's again.

8/10ths is a bit exaggerated.

quickest 05-09 mustang has gone 13.19 that ive seen (evan smith also went 13.2x in one) havent been watchin the 2010's very much but i saw one 13.3

quickest 2010 camaro is what? 12.8x so far?

We've been over this before. The '2012' safety standards so often referred to on this website begin implementation in the 2012 model year, they don't become mandatory until many years after that so no, the Mustang does not 'have to' meet them anytime soon.....not before the cars next major redesign in fact.

13.1 really? Pretty sure this was just drug up on mustangforums and it was a 13.3 (Evan Smith went 13.3 @ 103mph, and GeneK busted out a 13.3 @ 104mph) ... there is a 13.2 pass with no slip or anything else out there but I've never heard of a 13.1 pass before. Do you have any proof?

Longevity might not be a problem if you only keep your cars 5 years, but to me, it's a big deal. Even IF the next Mustang is a little faster, it doesn't beat Camaro in overall long-term quality, and certainly doesn't beat it in looks.

I'll be sticking with the Camaro.
I don't want to burst your ubble, but GM cars aren't exactly bulletproof, in the last few years I had to replace the transmission in the 00 Grand Prix, just over 100k miles, and my parents Lumina also blew it's transmission with just over 140k, and their Regal, among 1000 other problems, has a transmission on it's way out with well UNDER 100k miles..... My Fords and CHryslers are all much better!

Actually I've posted it on this forum before, but since you initially stated that all cars had to meet these requirements I've got a challenge for you. You show me where cars will have to meet these standards by 2012.
