Dragoneye, have you had a chance to place a deposit on on a ZL1 yet or are you going to wait a while?

I'm not a fan of the deposit thing so far in advance...you never know what might happen, and it's not as though I'm rolling in the $$$. When I know how much it'll cost, and I do my math. I'll get real serious about it.

no offense or anything, but what do you care if others are getting the car or not? I know I want to get the ZL-1 and whether or not the entire forum gets one doesnt matter to me...

i dont care... rather im just curious lol ....

Anyway, is there any word as to other options that will be available on the ZL-1 after the already announced: center stripe, sunroof, SSX rims, possible automatic trans, and anything else?

last I checked the interior is unchangeable as of now?

All we've been told so far is:

Roof/Deck lid stripe will be optional
SSX wheels optional
Microfiber suede steering wheel and dash insert optional
Sunroof

nothing on the automatic yet, or anything else.

When all is said and done, I don't expect much to be optional...just like the CTS-V and GT500...

Sorry, but I knew that Dragoneye was one of the guys on here that is very serious about getting a ZL1 and I was just curious about his order status. Maybe I should have PM'ed him, but I did not think it was that big a deal. I know that if it had bothered him, he would have PM'ed me a response.

its cool ... dont mind me

and @dragon: The suede inserts on the dashboard and wheel are optional? Seems like it should be included since it would already match teh shifter and suede seat inserts ... the steering wheel I can understand if someone doesnt like the feel if it while driving, but I think the dash board should be included....

I have no idea how much an option like that would cost, what would your estimated price be? $500?

No. Idea.

A lot of people around here heard "suede" and started screeching like monkeys...so, maybe it's a good thing they've decided it'll be optional.

The seats, from what I understand are standard because they'll help keep a driver in his seat better than leather. And the performance capabilities of the ZL1 simply demand that grip...

Now I'm thinking somewhere I misread and the optional microsuede was to be on the shift-knob/wheel, while the dash and seats were standard.....darnitall....

really? wow ... I think suede is awesome ... so in that aspect I hope the suede is the standard, and leather is the option since I can borderline afford the ZL1 as it is

I would love a suede shift knob, but ive never had a suede steering wheel so thats the only part Im iffy on, not sure how it would react under my sweaty florida hands during hard turns

BTW: if your a smoker, DO NOT GET SUEDE lol ... your car will permanently stink

I was thinking about this, and wondering where they're going to price the ZL1 in relationship to the GT500. I don't agree with you on saying there's not much optional on the GT500. The base price is $48,645, and optioned out it comes to $57,325. That's almost $8,000 in options (the difference is the destination charge).

From what's been released so far regarding the ZL1, there doesn't seem to be many options. If you add it all up, I doubt there's more than a few thousand dollars in options (suede, sunroof, stripes, wheels). Add in the likely GG tax, and I don't see how they're going to compete the the GT500's base price. It doesn't seem like there's going to be a "base" ZL1, and a higher performing one ala GT500, just a full performance model with a few appearance options.

So it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Unless something changes from what we've been shown so far, the ZL1 isn't going to be competing with the base GT500, it's going up against a loaded SVT package car. That car is well into the mid 50's, so anyone thinking it's going to be priced anywhere near the 50K mark is dreaming IMHO.

GT 500 has the SVT package which will probably be matched by an SSX package (?) with some less options I think. The SVT has a bunch of suspension stuff whereas teh ZL1 will come with magnetic ride control so it is probably the standard equivalent... so wont need that package

Their glass roof is $2000!!! ... the sunroof on camaros is less than $1000 by quite a few hundred.

They also have a sound system upgrade and an electronics system upgrade as well when we have the boston acoustics which is fine as is as well as all options from the 2SS model so we wont need that either.

The ZL-1 was also announced with suede inserts so something tells me that any leather will be optional as well... assuming you dont want leather your fine and wont pay extra $ ... but I could be backwards on this

all in all, seems like the (already clarified options) on the ZL-1 are more than enough. Assuming you dont want SSX wheels (probably the most costly upgrade), I envision the ZL-1 price quite a few thousand than the fully loaded GT 500, so not sure what your really talking about

Remember one thing, GM is out to compete with Ford, so I dont see them making the price higher, especially when the boss 302 starting at 42k has produced incredible numbers thus far (even for straight lines)... not to mention fords expiring contract with shelby this year, there may not even be a gt 500 anymore
