Email from my chevy dealer today:

"Hello Jess,
Thanks for contacting me. I just left you a message. I was just looking at your name this morning and wondering when we might know more about the ZL1's. Basically, it's like this: we don't have any pricing for them yet; they will most likely be priced near or just above MSRP; every dealer is going to get an allocation for the ZL1's. We don't know for sure how many we're going to get. We don't know exactly what options will be available (probably not many, standard equipment will cover most of it). It will be awhile before we even see any of the cars.
I do know that we already have 3 orders for them. People are placing a $1,000.00 deposit to get on the list for when they become available. The deposit is applied to the purchase of the vehicle. It's going to be a first come, first serve basis.
I don't know how much that helps you. I am confident we'll have the best prices around. And, based on the volume of business we do, we'll get a larger than average allocation. Let me know if you have any other questions"

At this point I am wondering if I shouldn't be one of the guys to put down a grand......

I would not put down any deposit unless you have written documentation stating that it will NOT be higher than MSRP. Unless of course money is not an issue for you.

If you want to buy from that dealer, it sucks but if they want $1k down, put it down.

It's refundable, you'll get the money back if you don't deal with them. Just make sure they write on the order form (your deposit receipt) that you get the $ back if you cancel "for any reason"

I have spoken with several dealers about the ZL1 and NOBODY is asking for a grand to get on the list. Sounds to me like your dealer is shady at best. Get in touch with one of the dealers in the forum, you won't end up taking it in the rear.

I put a 1k deposit on one, and my dealer gave me written documentation guaranteeing me that I will be paying MSRP. That's good, right? My father mentioned something that if the dealer got one in, they could very well turn around and sell it for higher than MSRP or the owner would take it, even though I put a reserve/deposit on one. What's the likelihood of that happening?

lol, the dealer I got my 2SS off of is a high volume dealership and gets lots of allocations so he wanted a $2k deposit , that was 3 weeks ago and I would have been 3rd on the list. I searched around, and found a closer dealer, guaranteeing MSRP and doesnt require a deposit, AND I am first on the list... even tho he is a lower volume dealer and wont get as many allocations from GM, I am still 1st!

depends on the character of the dealership... if they are shady they could easily screw you over (although you will probably never know about it and they wilil tell you that they dont have any current allocations behind your back if that was the case)

ok, I got ahold of a sponsor dealership and I am the first on their list for a ZL1.

I guess that makes the wait a little less extreme (at least that's what I'm telling myself)

That car is well into the mid 50's, so anyone thinking it's going to be priced anywhere near the 50K mark is dreaming IMHO.
We'll have to wait and see.

Chevy put a lot of things standard that Ford makes you pay extra for at the GT/SS level, and their prices are very close. I expect the ZL1 to continue this trend...but that's only my opinion.

Heck yeah! That will be the final deciding factor on whether I trade my 2SS for a ZL1. Just can't give up my Aqua Metallic Blue! I'll just throw a supercharger in it and be satisfied.

Thats the beauty of it all....if you want it supercharged from the factory, get the ZL1. If you want to mod your car, get an SS and go from there.

You really can't go wrong here....

Since I wasn't born until after the glory days ~circa 1967-1970, now is the next best thing....

Dude, I have to agree... I cannot see the suede shift knob holding up to thousands of repeated shifts without tearing or just disintegrating. I dunno about that item. We'll have to see if it makes it to production.

have you ever owned a suede jacket before, or anything suede? it will last just fine... as long as you dont get it wet that is. once it becomes wet it never regains it orignal texture even if it looks the same... my old suede jacket that I was caught in the rain turned to sandpaper :(
