And knowing it's been GM validated/tested is always a good thing. To protect themselves in OE applications, they always tend to overbuild things. This is a major plus for the person not interested in a warranty. |

But, most likely, the tunes will have ot be custom. If that's the case, wouldn't you want a qualified LS tuner who works on LS engines every day? Dyno tuning would be the way to go and most GM dealerships probably don't have dynos. Of course, the GM dealer who installs the LS9 blower could rent some dyno time, but still it would be better to get the tune by someone who has tuned many C5 Camaros. Regarding the warranty, your warranty will be gone. That's because a custom tune will be needed and that in itself will void your warranty. Even if GM releases some canned tunes (very unlikely) you would be lucky if you received some very limited engine/trans warranty. The LS3 and L99, while strong and powerful engines, were not designed for forced induction like the LSA and LS9 engines. Of course, we all know that the LS3 and the L99 can perform and last (so far) at moderate boost. But I highly doubt GM will warranty a stock LS3/L99 with their LS9 blower. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, the LS9 in the ZR1 runs something like 10 psi (please, correct me if I'm mistaken). If that's the case, you wouldn't want to run that much boost on a stock internals LS3/L99. Although some owners are doing it, it's not the greatest idea without meth or really high octane. My understanding is that the LS9 roots blower can work on L99's. AFM can be deleted with the programmer (tune). VVT cannot be deleted without replacing the camshaft for an LS3 or another one and adding an cam phaser restrictor. That's about $2K. I don't think you have to get rid of VVT in order to install this blower on the L99. My thoughts are there are better blowers on the market. For the price, why get this one? Sure, the LS9 engine with all of the awesome internals is a work of art, but the blower itself is probably not the best bang for the buck. Just my opinion. |

The best thing about this news is that GM is showing us that the stock LS3 and L99 as well as their respective transmissions and rear ends can handle moderate boost.
As I stated above in my other post, I don't think GM will honor the factory powertrain warranty once this blower is installed, but at the very least this shows that the stock SS Camaros can handle upwards of 500 rwhp because GM wouldn't sell this blower if they knew otherwise. I'm speculating that the LS9 blower makes at least 500 rwhp on a stock LS3 at 8-9 psi. |
