I wish I had the $$$$$ on hand to make this thing bigger and badder than it was before. The reality of the situation is I don't....so the next course of action is getting it back to being a fun, usable car again.

So what I'm left to decide on now is replacing the LS3 with a GM crate LS3 ( 430 hp 424 tq ), or stepping it up a notch to the " hot cam " LS3 crate engine ( 480 hp 475 tq ). Both come with a 2 year GM warranty....once that warranty expires, I might have some cash on hand to "upgrade" if ya know what I mean.

My CAI, Longtubes, underdrive pulley and axle back will all be going back on the car....so at least it'll have a little something extra.

that warranty just covers the engine right, because what happens if you put back a stock LS3 engine in. will the dealership give you your power train back ? i am thinking not because they could say the last engine put stress on the drive train or something like that ?

once a warranty is blocked, there is no going back

I'm guessing the tuning requred to do the cam would have been enough to void it. same computer will go back on it. I guess.

Unless your car was never flagged. But, it will be if they see the computer.

He did say that if they saw a pump fail on one that had been cammed, then they might start making such a recommendation.

I am planning to have the engine forged next winter. I will have them be sure to replace the oil pump at that time. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy driving it this summer.
It wasn't a known issue when Vengeance worked on mine either. Even though I was an early car in terms of modded Camaros...the LS3 had been around a little while.

Now there is a TSB on the part from Chevrolet...so you might want to politely tell that shop that while they haven't seen a failure themselves, it's cheap insurance for their customers. If you're swapping the cam out already... the oil pump is about a $150 part and not even and hours labor....CHEAP insurance.

They voided his powertrain...which is motor to wheel (well...axle I guess). So if he puts the crate LS3 in...he has a 2year warranty on that from GMPP, but the trans to wheel would still have no warranty. Note...this is complete speculation on my part...but what I would assume would be the case....

I agree with you and had I known before they put the motor back together, I'd have had them put a new oil pump put in the car. I will mention the TSB to them next time I talk to them.

I am glad to know about it now though because I was planning to forge the motor anyway. I need to get a complete list of exactly what I need to have them replace. They did a lot of parts when they did the cam, but I don't want to miss anything when they forge the engine. That will happen next winter.
