The 86 and 87 Buick Grand National's were 6 cyl and considered muscle cars... and were fasssssst. But compared to the late 60;'s... not so much. In today's world you got a great car for the money. It's a muscle car body with a sporty engine.

IMO, just because they are retro muscle cars doesn't make them a muscle car imo. Most newer cars these days have higher horsepower anyways so they'd be muscle cars too. I consider mine a sports car if anything. Just my 2 pennies

Just like the V-6 versions back in the day, it would not be considered a muscle car. It would be considered a secretary's car.

Ask him if the 2009 Mustang GT V8 with just 300HP is a muscle car? If so, then a v6 Camaro with 312HP or 12 more HP is a ???????????????

It doesn't work that way. Beside even with 12 more Hp the V-6 camaro is still slower than a 2009 mustang GT. Don't get mad that's just the way it is. Read your history. The V-6 version a a muscle car is the secretaries version.

Hey, why even bother with this thread, you'll never have anything but a secretary car in some peoples mind.

Amazing this still goes on.

EDIT: Secretaries' car...hmf. You know what most secretaries I know drive? A Malibu, Impala, camry accord, etc, etc, etc....

EDIT 2: I'm sorry this thread was resurrected, but please be warned...any LS/LT bashing and it gets closed, just like the others. We won't allow that sort of disrespect on here. CAMARO, remember, means "friend, pal, or comrade"...let's not make it an issue of engine size.

No disrespect intended. I'm from around those days, and I was merely stating a fact. If you would have watched Barrett Jackson last week you would have seen the same term used through out the week to describe the lessor models of many cars. It's just the way it is. If we're talking in today's terms then we shouldn't even bring up the term muscle car because none really exist anymore. I didn't really think my comment bashed anyone ,but if it did I'm sorry. I have no problem with the V-6. I said it on here before and I'll say it again. I really like the front end on the V-6 better then the SS. I was just replying to the question.

Just curious since this keeps coming up.

What does GM have to say on the matter. Do they consider the v6 a pony/muscle car or only just the v8? Personally I think there opinion is the only one that really counts. They make the cars and decide what it will or will not be. They decided to call this car a camaro, it could of been named anything but it's not. Its a camaro because they say it is. And if they say it's a pony/muscle car... then that's what it is.
Now with all the GM employees that frequent this site I'm sure someone somewhere can get an official or unofficial word to finally answer this question and lay this to rest.

Personally I call them both sports cars.

GM calls the Camaro (LS/LT or SS) the "Sports Car of the 21st century" in their marketing.

"Muscle Car", "Pony Car", etc...are all nicknames given by enthusiasts. So it's up to us.
