I don't understand why v-6 guys get so upset. You chose to buy the v-6 and shouldn't care what people say. I could give a rats ass as to what anybody things about my car choices. I buy for my own reasons. But, why would you argue the power thing with the v-8 guy it makes no sense. If power was an issues I think I would have gotten the v-8. Remember this, what ever you say you can do to your v-6 to beat the v-8, the v-8 can do the same thing and beat you every time. V-6's are not really about power. If they were they would be running them in topfuel and funny cars. Just enjoy it for what it is and don't worry about what people say. If it bothers you that bad it tells me that maybe you really wanted a v-8.

no offense, but you're saying an intake/exhaust alone has brought the V6 camaro to an under 5 second 0-60? So that would make it roughly on par with the SS with just an intake/exhaust alone? Somehow that doesn't seem realistic to me at all, I'm not doubting it will give an overall improvement but I think you're stretching a little bit here.

The V6 offers great performance and fuel economy. It's also the more advanced engine (VVT, DI & 24 valves). |

I'm not a v6 apologist. If I wanted an SS, I would have bought one. It certainly had nothing to do with price, as I traded in my wife's 45k E-Class on the Camaro.
After recently selling my 14mpg Hemi, I am sick of paying for the gas. When originally ordering our Camaro, I test drove both an SS and the 6. Sure, the SS is an awesome car, but I couldn't help but think it would be more fun building the 6 into SS territory. Forced induction was always in mind, and looks like it's going to become a reality in my car after the first of the year. Just like the Leno car, it will be the best of both worlds (at least for me). Great mpg in daily driving and enough power to be fun when I want it. Sure, my buddy's SS w/ a few mods will surely still be faster, but there is ALWAYS someone who's faster.

Ah, thanks! I wasn't looking forward to digging through the forums trying to remember which thread those were posted in.

I bet you let a SS owner who has a CAI and Exhaust installed borrow that little 0-60 gadget that you used to get the -5 sec times and it will record -3 sec 0-60. No need for a stinking tune or supercharger, that little 0-60 gadget adds 125hp when adding a CAI and exhaust.

I gotta agree that those times (the 5.0s) are not accurate. I've done 5.7 s in my V6 with CAI and axle back exhaust. I purchased one of those Matrix devises ($27) to do a heads up at the strip against my IPhone "dynolicious" app.
I'll post up results after the next "test & tune" nite.

Yeah, thank you Beauwulf, I'd be interested to see how that works out. I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble because I know there was a lot of excitement with the big gains that came from adding bolt-ons to the Caddy, but the same gains simply never seemed to pan out as well for the Camaro, likely due to more aggressive piping/better breathing direct from the factory. A quick search found this thread which seen to confirm the lower numbers
Teddydog wrote: "Interesting that you bring this thread back up. It does not appear that the Camaro is getting the same gains as the CTS with the same engine. The Corsa cat-back gave the CTS about 18 RWHP, but the Camaro version only gave 6! I don't think anyone has seen another 13 RWHP from ANY cai on the Camaro, either. So what gives? Why did the CTS get big gains and the Camaro not so much? Rob" I'm hoping the V6 guys are getting decent numbers, I just would find it awfully hard to believe they are doing 0-60 in under 5 with just I/E, especially after doing just some minor research. I also would not put too much faith into that foolish gadget either, though I'm interested in knowing how the V6 has done at the track so far and that would be a better gauge. |

What you V8 guys aren't getting is that the V6 is really quick when the temps drop. I can only tell you that the seat of the pants "butt dyno" tells me that this engine is alot faster when the ECU isn't retarding timing like it was during the summer. I realize that the same might be true for the V8, but keeping the timing advanced on the V6 makes a world of difference. I bet that a realistic 0-60 time in the colder northern climate is around 5.6 or 5.7 seconds, and that, by any measure, is pretty darn quick.

Cold weather and that 0-60 gizmo......hmmmm Imagine how quick a 3600 pound 304(flywheel hp) camaro with that 125hp 0-60 gizmo would be in Alaska! Time for someone to do a comparo once and for all. Stock V8 Camaro 0-60 run in the Mojave Dessert vs. V6 camaro run (with I/E and super-gizmo) in Alaska! V6 wins!!! Bubble inflated again?

No one is trying to say that a V6 is quicker than a V8, only that the V6 is alot quicker with colder incoming air. It is very noticeable.
