Z51 is a handling package for the base corvette which still uses the 6.2L LS3. Are you refering to the 6.2L LS9 in the ZR1 'Super Vette' aka Blue Devil/Sting Ray/SS?
As for a messing around and putting a 'lower' engine in, I would be happy to see the 350 come back to the Camaro (5.7L). The 5.7L Hemi makes about 340 hp, which is nothing to be ashamed of. That gives about 11 lb/hp which is better than nearly every 2nd or 3rd gen. Oh, and the current mustang as well as most other cars on the road.

Just a little tidbit...the Vauxhall VRX8...that cool sedan the pretty lady from Top Speed(or whatever the show) was driving? It's essencially a G8. But it uses/used the LS2. just throwing that into the L76 already in the chassis thing.

That, AND, the G8 is not a Camaro. and although it uses the Zeta platform, the Camaro's rendition should be radically different (in it's own right). Zeta was built for change, and adaptability. So saying that an engine is already fitted for the G8 chassis, or the VXR8 chassis (I know I just did) doesn't hold as much wieght as it would when regarding 'normal' cars, I think. (IMHO)

no i was refering to a 5.3 . i wouldnt want that to be the base model v8. and yes i meant the zr1 vette. the s/c 6.2. and i think the 5.7 is out of the pic and probably wont be back unless you buy a crate motor and swap it out.

You don't have to worry about the 5.3. (I'm assuming you're speaking of the LS4 from the Impala) One: it's designed to be transversely mounted. i.e. Front wheel drive. and Two: it makes below the power of the old LS1. So...I think we can safely put that one to bed, too.

Yeah, I know Zeta is flexible, but using the same engine in multiple applications keeps costs down and helps GMPP develop some good mods for us to buy. Also it has AFM, which GM probably wants to use for the base V8 to keep fuel economy at respectable levels. My point is, if they want to have price and power levels competitive with the Mustang and best in class fuel economy, the L76 is a very tempting choice, and so much the better that they know it already works well in the Zeta platform.

Whether the L76, the LS3, or a Gen V is offered as the base V8 engine, I'll be happy.

I just read that the engine for the 2009 CTS-V is going to be an all new engine, the LSA. The LSA is a supercharged 6.2L with 525 to 550 hp. Also, it's planned to be built in the normal engine factories. The CTS-V is a limited production vehicle, seems a like a waste to do all this engineering for a production run of only 7000. Since the CTS-V is going to be a 2009 and the Camaro is going to be a 2009...

Any possibility the LSA finds it's way into the Camaro?

Correctiong the 2010 camaro. They wouldn't label it a 2009 camaro and only sell it for half a year. They're trying for an initial year sales quota, I'm sure they want as much time to sell these cars as possible. Why start selling them when the year's half over? Feb-March is 1st quarter of the fiscal year For 2010.

We'd sure hope so! But, at this time, we don't know what to think w/ Scott telling us to forget everything we know about engines.

we just had a trans out on one of these cars at work and it has a totally different block with a small v-6 bell housing mounting, this will make it hard for rear wheel drive swaps
