As much as I love the ZL1 I have to say that I don't think that 11.90s is anything special for it. Taking a brand new car and putting some tires on it and running 11s is impressive but I still think these cars are capable of going much quicker. I still say that when real drag racers get there hands on them and the cars have some miles on them we will see much faster times from stock cars with tires.

Gordon Rojewski, driveline development engineer – and who is also an experienced drag racer and owner of a turbocharged, 920-horsepower street car.

It was run with an experienced driver.

If that is the case, it might also explain those awesome 60' times on a street tire.

Most don't have the same experience as these guys. I would be happy with a $55,000 car that can run like that. I can't wait to see ZL1 and a 2013 GT500 sitting side by side on the same track. People may be surprise.
I predict the newer 2013 GT500 will waste the ZL-1 on a drag strip with proper hook up sorry pal.

1.6 60's on street tires, they had to order more VHT for regular track days.

what will be interesting, will be when randy pobst drives a 013 shelby. he liked the mustangs it seems till he drove the zl1. what i've noticed though, is that virtually EVERY mustang he's driven, including the boss302ls, and the 012 gt500, was that he didn't feel good with the brakes. he always expressed lack of confidence in them, and on the drive of the boss302ls, even commented that they were "done" after only 2 laps.
the 013 gt500 finally moved up to 6 piston brembos, so it should be interesting is he still feels the same. he seems to keep his opinions somewhat un-biased too.

1.6 on stock tires is hard to believe. I'll ask someone I know who will give me accurate info. Won't name him in the thread but he won't lie.

Either way cool car.

Hey PSJ....will be interested to know what you find out. It's good to have some reason filter into this mostly RIDICULOUS thread.

My guy is saying that both cars went 11.9's on stock tires. They did try DR's but never got good runs on them track was too green. I believe him 100%.

My question is, Hennessey and Livernois (Redline didn't release a stock tire time)both went 12.4x-12.5x on stock rubber then bolted on DR's and dropped to 12.1x. How is it that these guys only went .1 faster?

Are these guys on the GM payroll or are they an independent testing source?

Why not release what the DR times were?

Thanks, of course with most of these mustang guys they will find something negative about every good post about this car even if they see it in person. I kinda get sick of it. They are both great cars and let's give credit where it is due instead of bashing every single video/post that people put on here. There was a guy that ran a 12.04 on stock rubber/manual with a car that had 250 miles on it. Video taped it from inside the car and showed slips. Of course this was smoke and mirrors as well becasue he didn't tape it from the tree and get the time board in the video. Just wears on some us I think. They are both great cars. Just give credit when it is due. JMO

I generally try to do a pretty solid job of trying to understand, and at least attempt to validate, in my own mind, the opposing point of view.

I'm not sure I can do it here.

You're saying that if this super technical awesome track car in the ZL1, beats the GT500, with it's tiny 285 tires, archaeic suspension, that already handled like hell with 550 hp then it's a fail for the GT500?

I know there are hundreds of opinions but this one just might have become my favorite C5 thought.

Then you go further stating about how the ZL1 has nothing to lose. A car that had been touted as "beyond the pony car league" that would defeat the 2013GT500 in every single performance metric, and that the chief engineer put on such a lofty cloud, is somehow an underdog.

I guess it's just the way I interpreted the post, but you've created yourself an out for every possible combination of performance comparisons that will come out.

I'll post my own just for the record. New GT500 thumps the ZL1 on the drag strip, and very likely whoops it around VIR as well. If I'm wrong, please remember to call me out and I'll apologize/retract my comments.

PS: I had a baby yesterday! Figured I'd throw that out there. Babies>ZL1s and GT500s together.

This. High 11's from the ZL1 on stock rubber is completely within the realm of possibility; in fact, entirely probable. 1.6x 60ft times in stock F1:G2's, however, is pushing rainbow unicorn territory of believability.

There are a lot of experienced drag racers on this site, so I ask the question. Have you or anyone you know ever had a sub-1.7 60ft time on any factory equipped radial tire?

My take is that GM ran that 11.93 on the Goodyears, but the time slip with that 60ft time was one of the many runs they made on the drag radials.

I understand the excitement, as GM is offering a factory Camaro that can hit 11's right from the factory. Ford guys had the same level of enthusiasm back in 2010 when Evan Smith hit high 11's on stock rubber in a 2010 GT500.
